LUKE CAGE
Luke Cage, born Carl Lucas, made comic book history in 1972 as Marvel's first African-American superhero to star in his own eponymous series. Subjected to a prison experiment that gave him unbreakable skin and superhuman strength, Cage operated as a street-level 'Hero for Hire' before evolving into a leader of the New Avengers and Mayor of New York City.
Cronologia
Biografia

Luke Cage, originally named Carl Earl Lucas, is a street-level superhero born and raised in Harlem, New York. The son of Esther and a retired NYPD detective named James Lucas, Carl spent his youth in brawls and petty theft with a street gang called The Rivals. After being framed for a drug crime by his former friend Willis Stryker, he was sent to Seagate Penitentiary in Georgia. While incarcerated, he volunteered for an experimental cell-regeneration procedure conducted by Dr. Noah Burstein.
A sabotage attempt by a sadistic guard accelerated the process, mutating Lucas's cellular structure to grant him unbreakable skin, superhuman strength, and enhanced stamina. Adopting the alias Luke Cage, he escaped prison and established himself in Harlem as a 'Hero for Hire', charging fees for protective services while defending everyday civilians. Over his long superhero career, Cage transitioned from a local hero to a major figure in the Marvel Universe.
He formed a lifelong friendship and partnership with martial artist Danny Rand (Iron Fist), creating the Heroes for Hire agency. Cage also served as a core member of the Defenders, briefly replaced the Thing in the Fantastic Four, and eventually stepped up as leader of the New Avengers during the superhuman registration crisis. He married private investigator Jessica Jones, and together they raise their daughter Danielle. Following a reign of terror by Wilson Fisk, Cage ran for public office and was elected Mayor of New York City. As mayor, he reformed the Thunderbolts into an official team of city champions and managed widespread gang wars across the boroughs, cementing his legacy as both a community protector and a formidable leader.
Storia

Carl Lucas grew up on the streets of Harlem alongside his best friend Willis Stryker and Reva Connors. Lucas and Stryker joined a local gang named The Rivals, clashing with rival groups like the Diablos and executing petty thefts for crime lord Hammer (Sonny Caputo). After spending time in juvie homes, Lucas realized the hurt his actions caused his family and sought legitimate employment, while Stryker advanced deeper into organized crime.
Their bond broke after Stryker was ambushed in a mob hit and saved by Lucas. Following the attack, Reva broke up with Stryker and sought comfort in Lucas. Believing Lucas was responsible for the breakup, a jealous Stryker stole heroin from Cottonmouth's organization, planted it in Lucas's apartment, and tipped off the police. Lucas was wrongfully arrested and sentenced to prison.
Transferred to the brutal Seagate Prison, he became the target of racist guard Albert 'Billy Bob' Rackham. At Seagate, Dr. Noah Burstein recruited Lucas for secret research on an Electro-Biochemical cell-regeneration process derived from Super-Soldier experiments. Rackham tampered with the machine controls intending to kill Lucas, but the overload accelerated the mutagenic process instead. The treatment fortified Lucas's body, giving him rock-hard, unbreakable skin and astronomical physical strength. Lucas used his new abilities to break out of Seagate, returned to Harlem, and assumed the name Luke Cage.
I PEZZI DI LUKE CAGE
Evoluzione
Luke Cage was created in 1972 by Archie Goodwin, George Tuska, Roy Thomas, and John Romita Sr. debuting in *Hero for Hire* #1. Reflecting 1970s street-level heroism, Cage operated out of the Gem Theater in Harlem wearing his iconic open yellow silk shirt, blue pants, tiara, and chain belt. He adopted the codename 'Power Man' in issue #17 (1974) to align with mainstream superhero conventions, before partnering with Danny Rand in 1978 for the classic *Power Man and Iron Fist* run. In the 2000s, writer Brian Michael Bendis spearheaded a significant modernization of the character in *Alias* and *Cage* MAX.
Cage abandoned his original costume in favor of leather jackets, street clothing, and a shaved head. His character arc deepened as he married Jessica Jones, became a father to Danielle, and assumed leadership of the New Avengers during the Civil War era, establishing himself as a moral compass for outlawed heroes. His evolution culminated in political leadership during the *Devil's Reign* storyline. Transitioning from a street mercenary with a criminal record to the highest office in the city, Luke Cage was elected Mayor of New York City. As Mayor, he reworked anti-vigilante policies, restructured the Thunderbolts as an official civic champion team, and led the city through major underworld conflicts like *Gang War*.

Major toy lines and statue producers feature Luke Cage in articulated 6-inch figure series, high-end statues highlighting his 6'6" muscular build, and two-pack box sets alongside his long-time partner Iron Fist. Screen-accurate figures depicting actor Mike Colter from the Marvel Cinematic Universe series (*Jessica Jones*, *Luke Cage*, and *The Defenders*) are also prominent among modern collectors. Digital collectibles, including playable card variants in games like *Marvel Snap*, showcase artwork from every era of his five-decade publication history.
