GENGHIS
Genghis Frog (also known simply as Genghis) is a mutant frog character from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise and one of the four Punk Frogs. Originally created in 1988 as a swamp frog manipulated by Shredder, he has evolved into a fierce battle-axe wielder featured across animated series, comic books, feature films, and collectibles.
Cronologia
Biografia
Genghis Frog is a fierce, combat-adept mutant frog best known as one of the four Punk Frogs alongside Attila the Frog, Rasputin the Mad Frog, and Napoleon Bonafrog.
Defined by his eagerness for battle and deep devotion to his gang, Genghis is quick to enter a frenzy whenever his fellow frogs are threatened. Throughout TMNT history, Genghis has moved between antagonist and loyal ally.
While originally tricked by Shredder into attacking the Ninja Turtles, he eventually realized Shredder's evil nature and became a friend to Splinter's team. In modern IDW comics and screen adaptations like Mutant Mayhem, he is portrayed as an axe-wielding, punk-rock fighting frog who battles alongside Michelangelo and the Turtles.
Storia
In the original 1987 animated series, Genghis began as a normal frog in the Florida Everglades who was mutated by Krang's mutagen canister.
Shredder discovered the mutated frog, named him after Genghis Khan, and lied to him, convincing Genghis that the Ninja Turtles were dangerous enemies. After Splinter helped the Punk Frogs realize Shredder's villainy, Genghis turned against the Foot Clan.
In IDW Publishing's comic continuity, Genghis's origin was reimagined: he was a punk-rock teenager in Mutant Town who was transformed into a humanoid frog by a Mutagen Bomb. In the 2014 animated series, he was introduced as General Genghis, a military-style leader living in the Northampton woods, whereas the 2023 movie Mutant Mayhem depicted him as a member of Superfly's mutated family gang.

Evoluzione
Genghis Frog has undergone major design and narrative shifts across almost four decades. Starting in 1988 as a Florida frog tricked by Shredder, his early visual design featured basic clothes and silly weapons like a boogie board. By 2014, he was redesigned into 'General Genghis,' a militaristic commander leading the frogs in the Northampton woods.
In IDW Publishing's 2021 comic run, Genghis was updated into a spiked-shoulder-pad wearing punk rock teenager in Mutant Town who wielded battle-axes and Molotov cocktails. The 2023 feature film Mutant Mayhem gave him a distinct Hawaiian shirt design as part of Superfly's family, leading directly into his co-starring role alongside Michelangelo in Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

His collecting legacy began in 1989 with Playmates Toys' vintage figure (Assortment #5000), which came packaged with his Radical Razor-Sharp Boogie Board, Tongue Gun, Turtle Swatter, and Cola-Can Grenades. Mint-on-card and complete vintage figures remain highly prized items on the secondary market.
In recent years, high-end toy lines have given Genghis premium updates. NECA released a cartoon-accurate Genghis Frog 2-pack in 2021 for their 1987 Animated TV Collector Line, followed by Super7's 7-inch figure in the Super7 Ultimates! line (2022–2024). Playmates Toys also released a 4.5" basic figure for Tales of the TMNT in 2024, and card collectors target his official Magic: The Gathering card (#148).

Shredder named Genghis after the conqueror Genghis Khan when he convinced him the Ninja Turtles were evil.
