Cronologia
Biografia
Cy-Gor, short for Cybernetic Gorilla, is a major cyborg antihero and former antagonist in Todd McFarlane's Spawn universe. Behind the hulking metallic beast is Special Agent Michael (Mike) Konieczni, a former military squad mate and close friend of Al Simmons.
After Simmons was murdered, Konieczni attempted to expose the deep corruption of Jason Wynn, director of the United States Security Group (USSG). Before he could blow the whistle, Konieczni was captured and forced into 'Project SIM,' an experimental U.S. Army biological warfare program headed by neurologist Dr. Frederick Willheim.
His brain was transplanted into a heavily armed silverback gorilla augmented with cybernetic upgrades. Driven initially by rage, primal instincts, and confusion, Cy-Gor escaped containment after Dr. Willheim suffered a stroke. Sensing Al Simmons' necroplasmic energy, he tracked Spawn through the alleys of New York City, mistaking him for an enemy. Over time, Cy-Gor regained fragments of his human consciousness, breaking free from USSG control and ultimately shifting from a tragic alleyway monster into a core ally of Spawn and a key member of the superhero team in The Scorched.
Storia
The origins of Cy-Gor are rooted in military corruption and illegal bio-engineering. Michael Konieczni served alongside Al Simmons in the military, forming a tight bond.
Following Simmons' secret assassination, Konieczni discovered government involvement and sought to expose USSG director Jason Wynn. Captured before he could reveal the truth, Konieczni was transferred to Dr.
Frederick Willheim's secret laboratory under Project SIM. The project aimed to engineer super-human ape soldiers for military combat. Willheim removed Konieczni's brain and transplanted it into a silverback gorilla, welding high-tech military cybernetics to the creature's body and creating the biological weapon known as Cy-Gor.
I PEZZI DI CYGOR
Evoluzione
Cy-Gor holds a distinct place in comic history, having been created by Todd McFarlane as an action figure line concept before making his official comic page debut in 1995. Originally portrayed as a raging, mind-controlled bio-weapon controlled by military tracking implants, his character gradually regained human consciousness.
In Rick Veitch's 1999 miniseries, Cy-Gor removed his internal control devices and began remembering his past life as Michael Konieczni. Over time, he transformed from a tragedy-driven enemy into a formidable antihero, culminating in his 2018 recruitment by Spawn and his ongoing role as a premier powerhouse in The Scorched.
Da Collezione
In the world of action figure collecting, Cy-Gor is legendary because he was conceptualized as a toy before entering comic canon. McFarlane Toys launched the character in 1996 with Spawn Series 4, which featured a highly prized white-fur Target exclusive variant.
He received a massive update in 1998's Spawn Series 12 with the Cy-Gor II Deluxe Figure, followed by the acclaimed Spawn Series 26 (2004) Issue 57 Cover 2-pack depicting Spawn vs. Cy-Gor. In 2020, McFarlane Toys featured Cy-Gor as the flagship monster in their cybernetic RAW10 line. Modern collectors heavily target the 2022 Spawn's Universe Megafig, an 8.75-inch figure with 22 points of articulation reflecting his current comic design.

Cy-Gor was created by Todd McFarlane as an action figure before being written into the Spawn comics.
