Cronologia
Biografia

Atomic Skull is a supervillain name shared by two distinct characters within DC Comics history: Dr. Albert Michaels and Joseph "Joe" Martin. Both incarnations are prominently featured as foes of Superman, though their backgrounds, powers, and psychological profiles differ significantly. The original Atomic Skull, Dr. Albert Michaels, was a scientist and administrator at S.T.A.R.
Labs who sought treatment for a severe nervous system disorder. Turning to the criminal organization SKULL, he received a radium-powered neural pacemaker that harnessed his painful brain seizures into deadly atomic blasts, eventually taking leadership of SKULL.
The second and most prominent Atomic Skull, Joseph "Joe" Martin, gained superhuman abilities after being mutated by an alien Gene-Bomb. Following brain trauma sustained during a mugging, Martin developed severe psychosis, believing he was the heroic protagonist of a 1930s movie serial called The Atomic Skull. In later stories, Martin sought redemption by working as a prison guard at Stryker's Island alongside the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit before being killed in experiments by the Ultra-Humanite.
Storia

Dr. Albert Michaels first suffered from a rare nervous disorder that short-circuited his brain's neural network. When S.T.A.R. Labs failed to find a cure, Michaels secretly made contact with the villainous organization SKULL. Their scientists fitted him with a radium neural pacemaker designed to treat his condition.
Instead, the device transformed his neural seizures into destructive atomic energy blasts, leading Michaels to adopt the mantle of Atomic Skull and take control of the organization. Joseph Martin's origin began during the Invasion!
storyline, where exposure to the Alien Dominators' Gene-Bomb altered his physiology, rendering his skin transparent and revealing a glowing, skeletal structure. After a group of muggers inflicted severe head trauma on him, Martin's mind snapped. He began hallucinating that his life was part of a 12-part 1936 movie serial produced by National Film Studios titled The Atomic Skull. Under this delusion, Martin mistook Superman for his cinematic enemy, "Doctor Electron," and roamed Metropolis searching for his fictional love interest, Zelda Wentworth.

Evoluzione
Atomic Skull was created in 1976 as Dr. Albert Michaels, a high-tech crime boss using a radium neural pacemaker. In 1991, DC Comics transformed the mantle with Joseph "Joe" Martin, shifting the concept from a mob leader to a tragic meta-human with radioactive powers and delusions stemming from a movie serial.
During the Underworld Unleashed crossover in 1995, Martin's powers became demonic and far more destructive after trading his soul to Neron. In the DC Rebirth era, Joseph Martin underwent a significant moral evolution, moving away from villainy to serve as a guard at Stryker's Island Penitentiary and aiding Superman and local authorities. Modern media adaptations have continued to adapt the character, ranging from a lobotomized catalyst in Superman vs. The Elite to a tech-armored Task Force X agent in My Adventures with Superman.
