ALAN SCOTT
Alan Scott is the original Green Lantern, created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell in 1940. Powered by the magical Starheart rather than the alien technology of the Green Lantern Corps, he stands as a founding member and leader of the Justice Society of America. Across decades of comic history, Alan has evolved from a World War II hero into an openly gay elder statesman of the DC Universe.
Cronologia
Biografia

Alan Scott is a pioneering hero in the DC Universe, introduced in 1940's All-American Comics #16 as the original Green Lantern. An engineer by trade, Alan wields the mystical energy of the Starheart through a power ring and lantern, granting him flight, energy constructs, and superhuman durability.
Unlike the later intergalactic Green Lantern Corps whose rings are vulnerable to yellow, Alan's magic-based power ring is uniquely ineffective against objects made of wood or plant matter.
Throughout his long career, Alan served as a foundational member and second chairman of the Justice Society of America (JSA), fighting alongside iconic heroes such as Jay Garrick's Flash. Beyond the JSA, he has held leadership roles across teams including the All-Star Squadron, Checkmate, and the Sentinels of Magic. In modern DC continuity, Alan is also an openly gay elder superhero and the father of metahuman twins Jennifer-Lynn Hayden (Jade) and Todd Rice (Obsidian).
Storia

Born in 1912 in the rural Midwest, Alan Scott developed into a talented engineer. In 1936, he was drafted into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 'Project Crimson' in the North Pacific, where he fell in love with fellow engineer Corporal John Michael Ladd.
After an energy eruption seemingly killed Ladd and revealed their relationship, Alan was discharged and checked himself into Arkham Asylum to 'cure' his homosexuality. Disturbed by the lobotomy of his friend Billie, Alan led a breakout from Arkham's Deviancy Wing, taking a lantern Billie carved for him and escaping to Colorado.
On July 16, 1940, while traveling aboard a train engineered by Alan, a bomb planted by rival engineer Albert Dekker destroyed the bridge, killing everyone on board—including Alan's new partner, conductor Jimmy Henton. Alan survived when a magical green flame emitted from Billie's lantern, healing his injuries. The flame, derived from the ancient Starheart, instructed him to fashion a ring from the lantern's metal. Adopting the mantle of Green Lantern, Alan brought Dekker to justice and pledged to fight darkness wherever it appeared.

Evoluzione
Alan Scott debuted in 1940's All-American Comics #16 as the original Green Lantern during comic books' Golden Age. Following a publication hiatus in 1951, DC reintroduced Alan in 1963's The Flash #137, establishing that his WWII era adventures occurred on Earth-Two while Hal Jordan operated on Earth-One. This landmark storyline introduced the concept of the DC Multiverse. In 1985, Crisis on Infinite Earths merged Earth-Two into the mainstream unified timeline.
During 1994's Zero Hour, Alan absorbed the Starheart energy directly into his body and adopted the codename Sentinel, before reclaiming his classic ring and Green Lantern moniker in 2003's JSA #50. Following Flashpoint in 2012, Alan was reimagined in Earth 2 as a young, gay media mogul chosen as the Avatar of the Green. Through Doomsday Clock (2019) and Infinite Frontier (2021), DC merged these elements into main continuity, restoring Alan as a senior JSA leader who comes out as gay to his adult children.

Alan's power ring possesses a unique flaw making its constructs completely ineffective against wood or plant matter.
