SKELETOR
Skeletor is the iconic 'Overlord of Evil' and the primary antagonist of the Masters of the Universe franchise. Originally introduced as an inter-dimensional demon, his legacy has evolved into a tragic tale of royal betrayal and dark sorcery.
Cronologia
Biografia
Skeletor stands as the definitive threat to Eternia, a powerful and ruthless sorcerer determined to conquer Castle Grayskull and seize its ancient secrets. Operating from his dark stronghold in Snake Mountain, he commands a legion of 'Evil Warriors' to engage in constant warfare against He-Man and the heroic Masters of the Universe.
His presence is characterized by his bare skeletal face—a result of horrific disfigurement—and his signature purple hood and armor. Beyond being a simple villain, Skeletor is a strategic mastermind whose ambitions extend to total dominion over the planet.
He is fueled by a relentless pursuit of the Power Sword, believing that by reuniting its halves or channeling the destructive Havoc energy, he can finally break the defenses of Grayskull. His role in the story has shifted from a barbarian-style invader to a deeply personal foil for the royal family, often depicted as a fallen prince who believes the throne of Eternia is his rightful inheritance. Whether through dark magic, cybernetic upgrades, or god-like transformations, Skeletor remains the ultimate obstacle to peace on Eternia.
Storia
Skeletor's origins have been reimagined several times, each adding layers to his dark legend. In his 1981 debut, he was a demon from the dimension of Infinita, seeking to open a gateway for his people.
However, the most widely accepted modern lore, established in the 1986 mini-comic 'The Search for Keldor' and fully realized in the 2002 reboot, reveals him as Prince Keldor, the half-brother of King Randor. Born with blue skin as a member of the Gar race, Keldor was an outcast who turned to dark magic under the tutelage of Hordak.
During a failed coup against the Council of Elders, Keldor was hideously disfigured when a vial of acid he threw at Randor was deflected back onto his own face. Near death, Keldor pleaded with Hordak for salvation. The ancient spirit stripped away the remaining flesh from Keldor's head, leaving a floating skull and binding him to a new identity: Skeletor. In the 'Masters of the Universe Classics' continuity, his transformation was further complicated by being merged with an extra-dimensional spirit called Demo-Man, which initially drove him into a state of murderous insanity before he eventually gained control over the entity.
I PEZZI DI SKELETOR
Evoluzione
Skeletor's evolution is a mirror of changing trends in fantasy media. In the early 1980s, he was a straightforward 'barbarian' villain with little backstory beyond his desire for power. The 1987 film took him in a Shakespearean direction, presenting a high-stakes conqueror. The 1990s briefly turned him into a space-age menace with cybernetic implants, reflecting the era's fascination with sci-fi.
By the 2000s, his character arc became much more tragic and grounded in family drama, emphasizing his past as the rejected Prince Keldor. Recently, in the Netflix 'Revelation' and 'Revolution' series, he has transitioned from a pure magic-user to a god-like entity (Skelegod) and then a technological horror (Skeletek), showing his adaptability as a character who can embody both mystical and industrial terror. The 2026 live-action film is expected to combine these traits, focusing on a Shakespearean menace brought to life with modern CGI.
Da Collezione
For collectors, Skeletor is the 'Holy Grail' character of the franchise. The vintage 1982 Mattel figure is the foundation of many collections, but modern releases have become highly sophisticated. A significant collector's item is the 2003 San Diego Comic-Con exclusive Keldor figure, which features interchangeable heads showing his transformation.
The 'Masters of the Universe Classics' line from 2010 is highly prized for its detailed bios and high articulation. More recently, the 'Rise of Evil' 2-pack from the Origins line and the 7-inch Masterverse 'King Keldor' figure have become sought-after additions. High-end collectors also target the limited editions inspired by the 2026 Jared Leto portrayal, which showcase the intricate detail of his skeletal features.

Skeletor was once a member of a rare blue-skinned race known as the Gar.
