SAM & TWITCH
Sam Burke and Maximilian 'Twitch' Williams are the definitive detective duo of the Spawn universe, serving as the grounded, human perspective amidst supernatural chaos. Over three decades, they have transitioned from secondary police antagonists into the stars of their own acclaimed noir-procedural comics and television adaptations.
Cronologia
Biografia
Sam Burke and Maximilian 'Twitch' Williams are NYPD homicide detectives operating within the dark, crime-ridden streets of New York City. Sam is the 'bad cop' archetype: a large, disheveled, and cynical man who isn't afraid to use brute force or verbal intimidation to get results.
His partner, Twitch, is his complete opposite—a thin, soft-spoken, and highly intellectual man who possesses a mathematical genius for ballistics and marksmanship. Together, they act as the bridge between the mundane world of law enforcement and the occult reality of the Hellspawn. While they initially viewed Spawn as a perpetrator in various gangland massacres, they eventually became reluctant allies, often investigating the high-profile supernatural cases that the traditional police force is unequipped to handle.
Storia
Created by Todd McFarlane, the duo first appeared in Spawn #1 in 1992. Originally introduced as secondary characters investigating the aftermath of Al Simmons' battles, their distinct 'odd couple' dynamic quickly resonated with readers.
Their origins are rooted in the gritty, urban decay of 1990s New York, where they struggled against corrupt superiors like Jason Wynn while trying to maintain their integrity in a department that increasingly ignored the city's supernatural underworld.
Evoluzione
The characters have undergone a significant transformation from background police interference into the psychological heart of the Spawn franchise.
Initially used as comic relief or a grounded foil to Spawn’s power, they evolved into the protagonists of sophisticated crime noir stories. This evolution culminated in the 2024 'New U' relaunch, which shifted them into a central role within the expanded Spawn Universe, bridging the gap between street-level crime and global supernatural events.
Da Collezione
McFarlane Toys is the primary manufacturer of Sam & Twitch figures, often releasing them as two-pack sets.
The most recent and highly sought-after release is the 2026 'Case Files' figure set, which features high articulation and designs based on the artwork of Szymon Kudrański to coincide with the TV series launch. Earlier 1990s figures remain popular among vintage collectors, and their playable appearances in 'In the Demon's Hand' have made that title a cult classic for gaming collectors.
Twitch can make impossible shots using pure mathematical mental calculations.
