GOD-EMPEROR
The God-Emperor of Mankind is the immortal ruler of the Imperium and the most powerful psyker in human history. Interred for ten millennia within the Golden Throne, he remains a silent 'Corpse-God' whose psychic light guides humanity through the darkness of space.
Cronologia
Biografia
The God-Emperor is the central figure of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, serving as the sovereign of the Imperium of Man and the focal point of human worship. Since the end of the Horus Heresy, he has existed in a state of living death, his shattered body preserved by the complex machinery of the Golden Throne on Terra.
He is the heart of the Imperial Cult, worshipped as a god by trillions, and acts as the sole beacon for interstellar travel through the psychic light of the Astronomican. Though his physical form is described as a 'howling cadaver,' his presence in the Warp remains immense.
He is sustained daily by the ritual sacrifice of a thousand psykers to prevent his soul from dissipating. For the citizens of the Imperium, he is the only shield against the predations of Chaos and the terrors of the galaxy, communicating his will through cryptic means like the Emperor's Tarot. His existence is a paradoxical struggle: a man who wished for a secular empire now sustained by the very religious fervor and sacrifice he once sought to eliminate.
Storia
The Emperor’s origins trace back to approximately 8,000 B.C.
in ancient Anatolia, where he was born as the collective reincarnation of Neolithic shamans who fused their souls to create a single 'Perpetual.' For thousands of years, he lived in the shadows of human history under various guises—philosopher, scientist, and leader—guiding the species toward survival without revealing his true nature.
Following the devastating Age of Strife, he finally revealed himself on Terra during the Unification Wars, creating the Thunder Warriors to conquer the planet's techno-barbarian tribes and forge a united world. He then launched the Great Crusade to reclaim the galaxy, engineering twenty Primarchs and the Space Marine Legions to serve as his vanguard. This era of expansion ended in tragedy during the Horus Heresy, a massive civil war led by his most trusted son, the Warmaster Horus Lupercal. In their final confrontation aboard the Vengeful Spirit, the Emperor slew Horus but was mortally wounded. To ensure the survival of humanity and the maintenance of the Astronomican, he was interred in the life-sustaining Golden Throne, where he has remained for over ten thousand years.
Evoluzione
The Emperor's narrative evolution spans nearly 50,000 years of in-universe history. Initially, he was a hidden guardian, a 'Perpetual' influencing humanity from the shadows of the Neolithic era through the early third millennium.
During the Unification Wars and the Great Crusade, he transformed into the Golden Conqueror—a visual icon of peak human perfection, science, and secular military power. Following his mortal wounding by Horus, he entered his current phase as the 'Corpse-God.' This 10,000-year evolution has moved from a man of logic to a silent object of religious fanaticism. The upcoming 11th Edition of the game (2026) highlights this complexity by focusing on the 'three faces' of the Emperor: the God, the Man, and the Corpse.
Da Collezione
For Warhammer collectors, the God-Emperor represents the pinnacle of the hobby's lore, though he rarely appears as a standard playable miniature.
The most significant release for collectors is the 'Armageddon' launch box set for the 11th Edition (June 20, 2026), which introduces new narrative themes and visual depictions of his 'three faces.' Forge World produces highly detailed, premium resin models of the Emperor during his time in the Horus Heresy, which remain 'grail' items for serious hobbyists. Additionally, high-end tarot enthusiasts seek physical replicas of the Emperor's Tarot, modeled after the psychoactive liquid-crystal wafers described in the lore, such as the Solar Deck or the Wolarii Deck variants.

The 'God-Emperor' tarot card depicts his corpse sitting on the Golden Throne with its mouth open in a silent scream.
