Cronologia
Panoramica
Produced by Japanese toy manufacturer Medicom Toy, the Captain Tsubasa collectible line bridges classic sports manga culture with high-end designer collectibles.
The line spans two distinct display formats: Medicom's iconic bear-shaped Be@rbrick platform figures and the sculpted Ultra Detail Figure (UDF) mini-figure series.
Positioned for both designer toy enthusiasts and dedicated anime collectors, these figures capture the central cast created by Yōichi Takahashi in high-grade vinyl and PVC. The UDF lineup focuses on static, non-articulated mini sculpts crafted by Perfect-Studio, accurately capturing character poses and team uniforms. Parallel to this, the Be@rbrick branch translates the classic Nankatsu SC soccer uniform onto stylized block-figure bases across 100%, 400%, and large 1000% scales. Together, these entries offer collectible options ranging from compact desk displays to prominent gallery centerpiece figures.
Storia
Medicom Toy entered the Captain Tsubasa franchise in 2019 with the release of the Be@rbrick Ohzora Tsubasa 100% & 400% Set. This inaugural release presented series protagonist Tsubasa Ozora in his signature white and blue Nankatsu SC uniform, merging iconic anime nostalgia with contemporary art toy design.
In 2020, Medicom Toy expanded the license into dedicated character sculpts with the launch of the Captain Tsubasa Ultra Detail Figure (UDF) Series 1.
Sculpted by Japanese modeling firm Perfect-Studio, the first wave introduced six key players: Tsubasa Ozora, Genzo Wakabayashi, Taro Misaki, Kojiro Hyuga, Hikaru Matsuyama, and Ken Wakashimazu. Following the success of Series 1, Medicom Toy released UDF Series 2 in 2021, introducing Jun Misugi, Roberto Hongo, and a dynamic 'Twin Shoot' dual-figure featuring Tsubasa and Misaki. That same year, Medicom Toy released the massive 28-inch 1000% scale Be@rbrick of Tsubasa Ozora.

Collezionismo
For collectors of sports manga memorabilia and Japanese vinyl toys, Medicom Toy's Captain Tsubasa lineup offers a refined alternative to standard mass-produced action figures. Because Medicom Toy prioritized fixed sculpt perfection and designer crossovers, these items appeal heavily to both anime purists and art toy enthusiasts.
The UDF series is highly sought after by completionists due to its cohesive scale and representation of pivotal rivals like Kojiro Hyuga and Genzo Wakabayashi, as well as mentor characters like Roberto Hongo. Meanwhile, the Be@rbrick iterations—particularly the 1000% scale release—carry strong secondary market interest among designer toy collectors due to Medicom Toy's strict production windows and limited distribution runs.
Series creator Yōichi Takahashi officially retired from traditional print manga serialization in April 2024.
