Sheev Palpatine, known to history as the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, is the primary antagonist of the Star Wars saga. Born on the planet Naboo, he lived a double life that allowed him to dismantle a democracy from within. Publicly, he rose through the Galactic Senate to become Supreme Chancellor, a role he used to project an image of a dedicated public servant.
Privately, he was the Sith Master who manipulated the Separatist crisis and the subsequent Clone Wars to weaken both the Jedi Order and the Republic’s foundations. His mastery of political maneuvering culminated in the execution of Order 66, which resulted in the near-extinction of the Jedi.
By seducing Anakin Skywalker to the Dark Side, he secured a powerful apprentice in Darth Vader and declared himself Emperor. Sidious ruled with an iron fist for over twenty years, utilizing fear and technological terror like the Death Star to maintain control. Even after his betrayal and death at the Battle of Endor, his influence persisted through contingency plans and the eventual transfer of his essence into a clone body on the hidden Sith world of Exegol.

Born on Naboo approximately 82 years before the Battle of Yavin, Sheev Palpatine was recruited into the Sith by the Muun Sith Lord, Darth Plagueis.
Under the tutelage of Plagueis, Sidious learned the most guarded secrets of the Dark Side, including the manipulation of midi-chlorians to influence life itself.
Following the Sith Rule of Two, Sidious eventually murdered his master in his sleep after he had learned everything he could. This act established him as the sole Sith Master, allowing him to begin his long-term plan for galactic domination, starting with the training of his first apprentice, Darth Maul, and his rise within the Naboo political sphere.
