GREYBACK
Greyback, also known as the Elder Predator or Golden Angel, is the venerable leader of the Yautja 'Lost Tribe' and a legendary figure within the Predator franchise. Best known for his code of honor, he is famous for gifting Lieutenant Mike Harrigan a 1715 flintlock pistol after the defeat of the City Hunter in Los Angeles.
Cronologia
Biografia
Greyback is the high-ranking Elder of a nomadic Yautja clan known as the Lost Tribe. He serves as a figure of ultimate authority and honor, overseeing younger hunters and ensuring they adhere to the sacred Yautja Code.
Unlike many of his kind who view humans solely as prey, Greyback possesses a deep respect for those who prove themselves in combat, a trait that defines his rare interactions with humanity. In 1997, Greyback led his clan to Los Angeles in a cloaked ship hidden beneath the city.
While he allowed the younger City Hunter to conduct a localized hunt, he grew concerned by the youth's indiscriminate killing spree. Following the City Hunter's death at the hands of Detective Mike Harrigan, Greyback revealed himself not as an enemy, but as a peer. In a gesture of supreme respect, he prevented his warriors from attacking Harrigan and instead rewarded the detective for his victory before departing Earth.
Storia
Long before he was an Elder, Greyback was known as the 'Golden Angel' due to his distinct yellow skin and golden bio-mask.
In 1718, he visited Earth and landed on an island near Africa, where he found himself fighting alongside a pirate captain named Raphael Adolini against a mutinous crew. The two warriors fought back-to-back, forming a brief but powerful bond.
When Adolini was shot in the back by a mutineer, he gave his flintlock pistol to Greyback with his dying breath. Greyback honored the captain by burying him and leaving his own sword at the grave, keeping the pistol as a trophy for nearly three centuries until passing it to Mike Harrigan. Recent lore from 'Prey' (2022) suggests the pistol's journey to Greyback may also involve the Comanche warrior Naru, adding layers to his long history on Earth.
Evoluzione
Greyback’s physical design evolved from necessity; his original 1990 suit was actually the recycled Jungle Hunter outfit from the 1987 film, modified with foam latex, a broken tusk, and grey dreadlocks to denote extreme age.
Over time, the character has evolved from a mysterious cameo into the franchise’s primary symbol of Yautja honor. The expansion of his 'Golden Angel' backstory in the 1990s gave him a more heroic, swashbuckling past, while modern merchandise from NECA has added new layers to his history, suggesting he participated in human conflicts like World War II, as evidenced by a U.S. 2nd Infantry Division patch worn on his armor.
Da Collezione
For collectors, Greyback is often considered the 'Grail' of any Lost Tribe set. NECA is the dominant brand for this character, having produced several versions including the 'Ultimate Elder' (2023) and the 'Golden Angel' (1718 version).
Hot Toys has released highly detailed 1/6 scale figures (the 2013 version being particularly sought after), and Hiya Toys offers 1/18 scale versions for smaller displays. A highly anticipated 'Poster Series' re-issue from NECA was announced for 2026, featuring paint applications that mimic the dramatic lighting of the original 1990 movie poster.

The character's broken tusk was specifically designed by special effects artist Shane Mahan to make him look older and more battle-hardened.
