RIKU
Riku is the central deuteragonist of the Kingdom Hearts series, beginning his journey as Sora's ambitious rival on Destiny Islands before evolving into a formidable Keyblade Master. His character arc is defined by the 'Road to Dawn,' representing his mastery over the darkness that once consumed him.
Cronologia
Biografia
Riku is a core figure in the Kingdom Hearts saga, introduced as the 15-year-old childhood friend and rival of Sora and Kairi. Growing up on the secluded Destiny Islands, his intense desire to see other worlds made him vulnerable to the influence of darkness.
This ambition initially led him down a path of jealousy and corruption, as he was manipulated by Maleficent and eventually became a vessel for Ansem, Seeker of Darkness. Following his possession, Riku spent years in a state of redemption, operating from the shadows to protect his friends.
Unlike Sora, who represents the light, Riku's power is unique because he learned to balance both light and darkness within his heart. By the events of Kingdom Hearts III and its following chapters, he has fully matured into a protective, calm, and wise Keyblade Master who leads the search for Sora across different realities, including the mysterious world of Quadratum.
Storia
Riku's history as a Keyblade wielder began long before the Heartless invaded his home. At the age of five, he encountered the Keyblade wielder Terra on Destiny Islands.
Recognizing Riku's potential, Terra performed the 'Bequeathing' ceremony, choosing him as his successor.
However, when the islands were finally consumed by darkness years later, Riku's fear and curiosity led him to accept the dark portal's power. He was separated from Sora and Kairi, landing in Hollow Bastion where Maleficent fueled his resentment toward Sora, eventually leading to his possession by Ansem during the final battle at the World Terminus.
Evoluzione
Riku has undergone the most dramatic transformation in the franchise. He began as a prideful youth whose desire for freedom made him a puppet for villains.
Through the 'Reverse/Rebirth' and 'Dream Drop Distance' chapters, he evolved from a guilt-ridden outcast into a man who accepted his flaws. By the time of Kingdom Hearts III, his design shifts from the aggressive, dark-themed outfits of his youth to a more modern, streamlined look, reflecting his internal clarity and status as a veteran Master.
Da Collezione
For collectors, Riku is a staple character with diverse figure options. Square Enix produces the most sought-after articulated figures through their 'Play Arts Kai' and 'Bring Arts' lines; the Kingdom Hearts III 'Braveheart' Bring Arts version is a modern favorite.
Good Smile Company's Nendoroid series offers a more stylized 'chibi' version of his classic KH1 and KH3 looks, which are highly popular for their accessory variety. For high-end collectors, the early Play Arts figures from the Kingdom Hearts II era remain 'grails' due to their nostalgic value and unique sculpting, while Bandai's S.H. Figuarts line provides a high-poseability alternative that is often compared to the Bring Arts for shelf presence.

The mobile game Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link, which was expected to bridge Riku's ancestry, was officially cancelled in May 2025.
