BROLY

Broly is one of the most powerful and iconic Saiyans in the Dragon Ball multiverse, existing as both a legendary non-canon antagonist and a reformed canonical powerhouse. Known for his overwhelming raw strength and signature green-tinted transformations, he has transitioned from a symbol of pure destruction to a complex warrior seeking control over his innate fury.

Biografia

Broly is a Saiyan of extraordinary power, often referred to as the 'Legendary Super Saiyan.' In his original 1993 incarnation, he was depicted as a psychotic and sadistic villain with an uncontrollable hatred for Goku, triggered by the latter's crying when they were infants.

This version of Broly relishes in death and destruction, famously describing himself to Piccolo as 'a devil' while decimating entire planets and civilizations without remorse. In the canonical Dragon Ball Super timeline, Broly's character was reimagined as a gentle and misunderstood soul.

Exiled to the desolate Planet Vampa as a child due to his immense potential threatening King Vegeta’s rule, he grew up in isolation under the strict and often abusive tutelage of his father, Paragus. This version of Broly does not seek conflict but possesses a 'mutant' level of power that manifests as a primal, rampaging rage when he is pushed to his limits or manipulated by others like Frieza.

LO SAPEVI?Akira Toriyama intentionally left it ambiguous whether Broly had a tail in the original design notes.

Storia

Born on Planet Vegeta with a power level of 10,000, Broly’s innate strength far surpassed that of Prince Vegeta, leading King Vegeta to order the infant’s execution. In the original Z-era, Broly survived being stabbed and left for dead, using his powers to shield himself and his father from the planet's destruction by Frieza.

He spent his youth as a ticking time bomb of unstable energy, eventually requiring a mind-control crown designed by Paragus to suppress his violent outbursts. In the revised Super-era history, Broly was sent to the harsh world of Vampa.

Paragus followed him, intending to raise him as a weapon of revenge against the Saiyan royal bloodline. For decades, they survived on the desolate planet until being discovered by Frieza Force scouts Cheelai and Lemo. This led to a monumental confrontation on Earth against Goku and Vegeta, which ended with Broly finding a new home on Vampa and eventually moving to Beerus’ planet to train and master his volatile emotions.

LO SAPEVI?Unlike other Saiyans under Frieza, Broly does not wear standard Battle Armor because he was never affiliated with the Frieza Force until the events of the 2018 film.

Evoluzione

The evolution of Broly is one of the most significant shifts in Dragon Ball history. Originally conceived by Takao Koyama as a 'menacing Saiyan villain' inspired by Future Trunks' muscle-bound transformation, the Z-era Broly was a static engine of destruction. His character lacked depth beyond his madness and his obsession with Goku’s childhood crying. For decades, this 'Devil' persona defined the character in games and merchandise.

In 2018, Akira Toriyama took the character's design and rebuilt him with a focus on empathy. The modern Broly is a tragic figure, a 'gentle soul' whose tragedy stems from isolation and parental abuse. His recent evolution in the Dragon Ball Super manga (2023-2024) shows him transitioning from a mindless berserker to a disciplined warrior. Training alongside Goku and Vegeta, he is learning to access his 'Full Power' state without losing his consciousness, marking his path toward becoming a legitimate protector of the universe.

LO SAPEVI?Broly once devoured two Dragon Balls in the Victory Mission manga to prevent his opponents from using them.

Da Collezione

For collectors, Broly is considered a 'heavyweight' in any display due to his sheer size and visual presence. Major brands like Bandai's S.H. Figuarts have released multiple versions, including the massive 'Full Power' Super-era variant and the classic 'Legendary Super Saiyan' Z-era version, both of which are highly sought after for their articulation and scale.

The G×materia series recently made waves in May 2026 with a 'revival' figure based on his 1994 Second Coming appearance, featuring translucent energy effects. Higher-end collectors often target the Ichiban Kuji 'King Clustar' releases, which are famous for their towering height. Values for limited-edition Broly figures tend to appreciate quickly, especially those capturing his signature green-haired transformation, which remains a grail for many Dragon Ball enthusiasts.

LO SAPEVI?In the 2026/2027 anime projects, Broly is expected to receive a new form to differentiate his canonical growth from his old movie forms.
