Cronologia
Panoramica
Produced by NECA (National Entertainment Collectibles Association), the Universal Monsters action figure line represents a premier collectible series dedicated to classic gothic horror cinema.
Officially launched in 2021 to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Universal's foundational 1931 horror classics Dracula and Frankenstein, the flagship line is anchored by NECA's signature 7-inch scale Ultimate action figure format.
The franchise ecosystem extends across multiple display formats, including 8-inch retro clothed figures in window-box packaging and 6-inch stylized cartoon figures under the Toony Terrors sub-line. Engineered with extensive articulation, screen-accurate sculpts, and officially licensed likenesses of legendary actors—including Boris Karloff, Béla Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr., Claude Rains, Elsa Lanchester, and Lon Chaney Sr.—the product line positions itself as a high-end tribute for horror film enthusiasts and action figure collectors.
Storia
NECA officially debuted the 7-inch Ultimate Universal Monsters line in 2021, starting with the classic cornerstone characters: Frankenstein's Monster, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, and Dracula featuring Béla Lugosi's authorized portrait.
In 2022, the lineup expanded with The Invisible Man, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Bride of Frankenstein, alongside the introduction of an acclaimed mashup series crossing Universal Monsters with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
By 2023, NECA completed the core monster roster with the Creature from the Black Lagoon and introduced large-scale environment diorama sets for Frankenstein's laboratory and The Mummy's sarcophagus. Evolution through 2024 to 2026 brought expanded character variants such as Ardeth Bey and the Kemp House Invisible Man, translucent clear plastic variants, 90th-anniversary two-packs, and a broader classic horror line encompassing Hammer Films icons and Vincent Price.

Collezionismo
NECA's Universal Monsters line holds a strong position in the modern horror action figure market. A major driving factor for collectors is NECA's licensing of authentic actor likenesses—such as Béla Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney Jr., and Claude Rains—which attracts classic film archivists alongside standard toy figure buyers.
Collecting interest is further multiplied by NECA's dual-release strategy of issuing figures in both vibrant movie color and authentic "Silver Screen" Black & White variants, prompting many completionists to acquire both editions. Secondary market interest remains high for environment diorama sets and limited store/convention exclusives, including glow-in-the-dark variants and translucent specialty sculpts. Additionally, the Universal Monsters x TMNT mashup sub-line has expanded value by introducing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collectors to the classic horror universe.

The Universal Monsters x TMNT crossover series reinterprets character roles, turning Donatello into The Invisible Man and Splinter into vampire hunter Van Helsing.
