SAVAGE WORLD

Savage World is a 5.5-inch vinyl action figure line created by Funko between 2017 and 2018. The line reimagined iconic pop-culture characters—including horror slasher villains, Mortal Kombat fighters, ThunderCats, and Street Fighter II combatants—in the heavily-muscled 1980s barbarian style of Masters of the Universe and Remco. Funko officially vaulted and retired the product line between late 2019 and 2020.

Panoramica

Savage World is a line of 5.5-inch vinyl action figures produced by Funko.

Introduced between 2017 and 2018, the line reimagines popular pop-culture characters—ranging from classic horror slashers and video game combatants to animated heroes—in a bulky, muscle-bound barbarian aesthetic inspired by 1980s retro lines such as Masters of the Universe (MOTU) and Remco figures.

Storia

Funko first experimented with the 5.5-inch barbarian figure format in 2016–2017 with a standalone figure based on the TV series Son of Zorn.

The official Savage World brand debuted in 2017–2018 with the Mortal Kombat X license.

In 2018, Funko expanded the line with Horror Villains, two waves of ThunderCats, and Street Fighter II, alongside a direct sister line titled DC Primal Age. Unreleased prototypes for Conan the Barbarian were shown at Toy Fair 2018 but never reached production. Funko vaulted and retired the entire line between late 2019 and 2020.

LO SAPEVI?DC Comics published a dedicated anthology comic, DC Primal Age 100-Page Giant #1, written by Marv Wolfman, Scott Koblish, Louise Simonson, and Jerry Ordway in January 2019 to tie into the sister line.

Pezzi Iconici

### Jason Voorhees (Horror Icons) A zombified sculpt featuring exposed ribs, a bone axe, and a bone sword. ### Freddy Krueger (Horror Icons) Features his signature glove blades, a shredded sweater, and a barbarian loincloth. ### Leatherface (Horror Icons) Includes a bloody apron and interchangeable arm attachments for his chainsaw and mallet.

### Pinhead (Horror Icons) Comes equipped with torture blades and the iconic Lament Configuration puzzle box. ### Chun-Li - Pink Dress Chase Variant (Street Fighter II) A rare alternate color chase variant released alongside the standard wave. ### Blanka - Yellow Chase Variant (Street Fighter II) A sought-after yellow color variant from the Street Fighter II line. ### Conan the Barbarian & Thulsa Doom (Unreleased Prototypes) Teased at Toy Fair 2018 but cancelled prior to retail manufacturing.

LO SAPEVI?Prototype figures of Conan and Thulsa Doom from the 1982 movie Conan the Barbarian were unveiled at Toy Fair 2018 but were never mass-produced.

Collezionismo

Savage World holds a distinct niche for collectors who appreciate 1980s retro 5.5-inch fantasy figures, sitting alongside lines like Mattel's MOTU Origins, Masters of the WWE Universe, and Super7 offerings.

Sealed figures from the Horror Villains and ThunderCats sub-lines are especially prized by custom figure creators and inbox retro display collectors. Because Funko vaulted the entire brand between late 2019 and 2020 without further production, sealed figures and rare chase variants remain popular on the secondary market.

LO SAPEVI?The Leatherface figure was designed with unique interchangeable forearm attachments allowing collectors to switch between a chainsaw and a mallet.
