Cronologia
Panoramica
Mini Epics is a flagship series of stylized, high-end 3D vinyl figures designed and manufactured by Wētā Workshop, the acclaimed New Zealand-based special-effects and prop design company.
Engineered primarily in an approximate 1:10 scale, standard figures stand between 4 and 7.5 inches tall, accompanied by occasional oversized characters and unique sub-formats.
The line is defined by a distinct aesthetic design: exaggerated proportions, dynamic character postures, and highly stylized facial features that highlight the core personality of pop-culture characters. Spearheaded by lead digital sculptors Mauro Santini and Jorgelina Yeme, Mini Epics translates cinematic and gaming icons into tangible vinyl art. Standard releases arrive in custom-printed window display boxes that include interactive QR codes, linking collectors directly to behind-the-scenes sculpting and production videos.
Storia
The Mini Epics line debuted in July 2017 at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) before launching commercially in November 2017. Wētā Workshop launched the series with characters from Middle-earth, utilizing their legendary creative relationship with The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films.
Following its immediate success, the line expanded in 2018 to include Planet of the Apes for its 50th anniversary, alongside Tomb Raider. Over the next several years, Wētā grew the lineup to cover landmark sci-fi and horror franchises, including Alien, Predator, Ghostbusters, Gremlins, and Labyrinth.
Modern television properties were introduced with Stranger Things in 2021 and Netflix's The Witcher in 2022. The line also diversified its product formats, introducing compact, articulated Micro Epics, oversized vinyl sculpts such as Smaug, and two-character Twin Packs like the 2024 Beetlejuice wedding set. In 2024 and 2025, Wētā expanded into musical legends with a KISS 50th anniversary lineup and webcomics with Lore Olympus, cementing Mini Epics as a core pillar of Wētā Workshop's physical collectible portfolio.
I PEZZI DI MINI EPICS VINYL
Collezionismo
Mini Epics occupies a distinct position in the vinyl figure market, combining approachable stylized designs with the technical sculpting background of Wētā Workshop. Unlike mass-market vinyl toys, Mini Epics are designed by the same digital artists who work on major film effects and high-end statues, providing a premium feel and superior detail density.
The secondary market value for Mini Epics is strongly driven by low-quantity Limited Edition variants—such as the 2,000-piece Wounded Demogorgon, the 3,000-piece Gollum/Sméagol, or 4,000-piece Pawny—as well as convention-exclusive colorways. Twin Packs and oversized vinyl figures like Smaug also command strong interest among franchise completionists. Because Mini Epics are produced by Wētā Workshop alongside their high-end 1:6 resin statues, the line serves both as an accessible entry point for new collectors and a space-efficient display alternative for veteran film memorabilia enthusiasts.

KISS figures were specifically modeled after the band's 1976 Destroyer album era stage costumes.
