LEGO DOTS
LEGO DOTS was an arts-and-crafts product line created by The LEGO Group that debuted in 2020. Departing from traditional interlocking brick structures, the line focused on 1×1 tiles and plates used to customize wearable wristbands, room decor, and stationary accessories until its discontinuation in late 2023.
Cronologia
Panoramica
LEGO DOTS is a discontinued System sub-theme produced by The LEGO Group.
Aimed at arts-and-crafts enthusiasts and creative design, the line shifted the focus of LEGO building away from complex structural models toward surface customization and mosaic patterning.
Rather than standard studs-and-bricks construction, DOTS products featured smooth, colorful 1×1 tiles designed to decorate flexible wristbands, bag tags, picture frames, desk organizers, and message boards. The theme provided a unique entry point into the LEGO ecosystem by emphasizing individual self-expression, pattern design, and functional room accessories.
Storia
The LEGO DOTS product line officially launched worldwide in March 2020. To celebrate the debut, The LEGO Group partnered with French artist Camille Walala to build the 'HOUSE OF DOTS' in London's Coal Drops Yard—an interactive art installation built from over two million LEGO elements featuring an eight-foot slide.
The initial product lineup included customizable bracelets, pencil holders, photo frames, and blind-bagged 'Extra DOTS' tile expansions. In 2021, the line expanded to introduce Bag Tags, sticky patches, activity books (such as 'DOTS Design Fun' by Adam White), and massive bulk tile packs like set 41935 Lots of DOTS.
By 2022, LEGO DOTS integrated major licensed intellectual properties, releasing sets themed around Disney's Mickey Mouse and Friends as well as the Harry Potter Wizarding World, alongside new mediums like stitch-on fabric patches and large message boards. In January 2023, The LEGO Group officially announced that LEGO DOTS would be retired by the end of the year to pivot focus away from tile-based craft systems. Official retail distribution for the theme concluded in December 2023.
Collezionismo
Although LEGO DOTS was officially retired at the end of 2023, it retains a distinct position in the secondary market among custom builders, mosaic artists, and parts collectors.
Secondary platforms like BrickLink and eBay frequently trade DOTS sets and bulk tile lots because of the high concentration of hard-to-find pastel shades, geometric tile cuts, and printed expression tiles. While DOTS no longer exists as a standalone theme, the tile-based artwork and mosaic design principles pioneered by the line continue to influence pattern elements in secondary themes like LEGO Art and LEGO Friends.

Official LEGO DOTS activity books were published alongside the sets, including 'DOTS Design Fun' authored by Adam White.
