Overview
The Holiday Edition line by Hasbro is a dedicated seasonal sub-line of action figures spanning multiple major entertainment franchises.
Produced primarily across 3.75-inch, 6-inch, and 7-inch scales, the line reimagines flagship characters from Star Wars, Transformers, and Marvel Comics in distinct seasonal aesthetics, including Christmas, Halloween, and Valentine's Day themes.
Rather than adhering to standard canonical portrayals, these figures feature festive color schemes and playful themes—ranging from Santa-inspired red-and-white armor and gingerbread paint decos to ugly Christmas sweater patterns and spooky Halloween costume motifs. Positioned as limited seasonal exclusives, Hasbro crafts these figures with high articulation while incorporating soft-goods apparel, custom seasonal packaging, and holiday companion figures like Porgs, Boglings, and Grogu. By combining pop culture nostalgia with seasonal celebrations, the Holiday Edition serves as an annual tradition for action figure collectors.
History
The line debuted in 2002 with 3.75-inch Star Wars action figures inspired by Ralph McQuarrie's iconic 1978 Lucasfilm Christmas card artwork, launching with a C-3PO & R2-D2 two-pack. Hasbro continued releasing annual 3.75-inch fan-club and retailer exclusives through 2005, featuring Yoda, Jawas, and Darth Vader.
In 2020, Hasbro revived and modernized the concept for the 6-inch scale within Star Wars: The Black Series, debuting five retail-exclusive holiday figures featuring festive decos and holiday companion droids.
The concept expanded in 2022 to include Halloween-themed Star Wars figures (such as vampire and skeleton variants) and crossed into the Transformers Generations line with a 7-inch transforming Holiday Optimus Prime figure. Between 2023 and 2025, Hasbro broadened its annual winter and Halloween waves across multiple retail channels. In 2026, the seasonal program expanded further to include a Valentine's Day Ewok and the formal integration of superhero figures through the Marvel Legends Spider-Man (Marvel Holiday Special) release.

Collecting
For action figure enthusiasts, Hasbro's Holiday Edition line offers a distinct and highly collectible sub-market. Unlike standard canonical figure releases, the primary appeal of the Holiday Edition line stems from its playful designs, limited seasonal production runs, and fragmented retailer exclusivity.
Almost all figures in the line are released as store exclusives distributed through specific partners such as Target, Walmart, Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, ShopDisney, and Hasbro Pulse. This store-exclusive model creates an annual seasonal hunt for collectors. On the secondary market, early vintage releases like the 2002 Ralph McQuarrie 3.75-inch sets and major crossover items like the 2022 Transformers Holiday Optimus Prime remain prominent grails. As Hasbro continues expanding the line into Halloween, Valentine's Day, and Marvel Legends, collecting the Holiday Edition offers a unique seasonal angle for display enthusiasts.
