Cronologia
Panoramica
Gameboard (developed by The Last Gameboard, Inc. in strategic partnership with Asmodee Digital) is a hybrid 'phygital' digital tabletop hardware console.
Designed to blend traditional physical tabletop gaming with digital flexibility, the system utilizes a 17″ x 17″ form factor with a 22″ square screen, proprietary 3D-touch hardware called SenseScreen, and cloud-connected multiplayer to run digital adaptations of tabletop board games, card games, and tabletop RPGs.
Through its partnership with Asmodee Digital—one of the world's largest publishers of tabletop board games—Gameboard brings flagship tabletop IPs including Catan, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Terraforming Mars, and Gloomhaven directly onto a shared digital surface.
Storia
The Last Gameboard, Inc. was founded in 2018 in Denver, Colorado by Shail Mehta, Rob Wyatt, and Tim Schukar. In 2019, the team unveiled its initial prototype, the Gameboard-1, featuring a 15.6″ x 15.6″ multi-touch display and custom operating system (TLGOS).
A successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020 raised over $185,000, prompting a hardware scale-up to a 17″ x 17″ footprint with a 22″ screen.
In May 2021, the company closed a $4 million seed round led by TheVentureCity with participation from Riot Games and established a major publishing partnership with Asmodee Digital alongside studio partners such as Steve Jackson Games and Nomad Games. Retail shipments commenced in 2022 at an MSRP of $799 with a dual monetization model ($15/month subscription or a la carte purchases). Platform updates subsequently introduced multi-board physical mesh linking in 2024 and 8-player remote/local synchronous play in 2025.
I PEZZI DI GAMEBOARD
Collezionismo
In the tabletop board gaming space, Gameboard occupies a distinct collector niche by serving as a hardware bridge between physical component collecting and digital game libraries. With a retail debut price of $799, the unit represents an investment console for enthusiasts seeking to consolidate large shelf-space board games into a single physical unit.
Value retention for the platform is strongly tied to its physical miniature compatibility: through SenseScreen optical recognition, collectors can place their existing plastic, 3D-printed, or custom mini figures directly onto the board without modifying them with RFID tags. The dual-monetization model—combining a $15/month subscription with a la carte purchases—allows collectors to access out-of-print or high-cost strategic tabletop games digitally while retaining physical tabletop interactions.

Investors in Gameboard's $4 million 2021 seed round included video game developer Riot Games.
