Cronologia
Panoramica
The Funko 5 Star line is a series of 3-inch poseable vinyl collectible figures produced by Funko, Inc., officially launched in mid-2018. Designed as an alternative to Funko's flagship static Pop! figures, the 5 Star line was developed to emphasize storytelling, poseability, and dynamic display options.
Unlike traditional Pop! figures with oversized static heads, 5 Star figures feature more proportioned designs alongside three points of articulation at the swivel head and both arms. A central hallmark of the line is its distinct packaging and accessory concept.
Each figure comes housed in a stylized window display box structured like an opening storybook, complete with a front flap that opens to reveal the figure set against themed interior artwork. Every figure includes character-defining miniature props, tools, or companion figures—such as pets, weapons, or key narrative items—giving collectors multiple display options out of the box.
Storia
Funko officially unveiled the 5 Star brand in May 2018, releasing the first sets later that summer.
The initial launch wave covered major pop culture franchises, including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, DC Super Heroes, Disney's The Nightmare Before Christmas 25th Anniversary set, classic Horror icons, Incredibles 2, and Fortnite. Throughout 2019, Funko expanded the line across gaming, television, anime, and cinema.
Releases included Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Kingdom Hearts III, Fallout, My Hero Academia, Disney Animated Classics, and a second Horror wave featuring icons like Jack Torrance and Annabelle. Funko also introduced retailer and convention exclusives, such as the 2019 Summer Convention Exclusive Abe Sapien from Hellboy. Around 2020, Funko shifted its strategy away from mid-tier vinyl lines (such as Dorbz, Vynl., and 5 Star) to focus manufacturing efforts on its core Pop! brand. As a result, the 5 Star line was sunsetted with no new releases produced after 2020.

Collezionismo
For Funko collectors, the 5 Star line occupies a distinct sub-niche within the brand's history. The line appeals to fans who prefer poseable figures with detailed mini-accessories over the traditional static Funko Pop! style. The storybook-inspired packaging design allows mint-in-box collectors to display figures inside opening flap boxes against custom backdrop art.
Since Funko retired the brand around 2020, 5 Star figures are available exclusively on the secondary market. Convention exclusives like Abe Sapien and store exclusives like the GameStop Sora (Monsters, Inc. form) are notable targets for completionists. Complete-in-box figures holding all original miniature props—such as companion pets, weapons, or character-specific items—maintain consistent demand among niche collectors.

The Nun (Valak) figure in Horror Wave 2 came with an alternate face sculpt accessory.
