The Uncharted franchise originated in 2007 with the release of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on the PlayStation 3.
Created by game director and writer Amy Hennig and developed by Naughty Dog, the title introduced players to Nathan 'Nate' Drake, a charismatic treasure hunter claiming to be a descendant of Sir Francis Drake.
Set in South America as Nate, his mentor Victor 'Sully' Sullivan, and journalist Elena Fisher track the lost treasure of El Dorado, the game established the franchise's signature blend of cinematic narrative, climbing mechanics, combat, and historical intrigue. The success of the initial game established Uncharted as a flagship exclusive brand for Sony's PlayStation platforms.
