Panoramica
The Boys is a satirical superhero media franchise created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson. Originating as a comic book series in 2006, it subverts classic superhero tropes by portraying superpowered individuals as narcissistic, corrupt corporate celebrities owned by Vought International.
Facing them is a black-ops vigilante squad—the titular Boys—determined to expose their dark secrets and tear down Vought's premier superhero team, The Seven. Over two decades, the IP has expanded into a massive multi-media universe.
Its flagship live-action television adaptation, developed by showrunner Eric Kripke along with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, premiered on Amazon Prime Video in July 2019 and ran for five acclaimed seasons through May 2026. Beyond the main series, the franchise encompasses the animated anthology The Boys Present: Diabolical (2022), the college spin-off series Gen V (2023–2025), in-universe web shorts like Seven on 7, the upcoming 1950s prequel series Vought Rising (2027), the standalone VR game The Boys: Trigger Warning (2026), and numerous high-profile video game crossovers.
Origini
The franchise began in October 2006 with the publication of The Boys #1 by DC Comics under its WildStorm imprint, co-created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson. Due to the comic's harsh anti-superhero themes and explicit content, DC canceled the title after just six issues.
Publisher Dynamite Entertainment acquired the series in May 2007 starting with Issue #7, publishing it through its 72-issue conclusion in November 2012. Film adaptation attempts occurred between 2008 and 2016 across Columbia Pictures and Paramount Pictures before transitioning to television.
In April 2016, Cinemax announced a series adaptation helmed by Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen. Amazon acquired the project in November 2017, placing an eight-episode order for Season 1. To keep the show grounded, showrunner Eric Kripke instituted strict creative guidelines requiring all powers to derive from Compound V, while introducing narrative twists—such as altering the story of Billy Butcher's wife Becky—to keep comic readers surprised.
