Beginning with the original manga serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1985 to 1990 and the classic 114-episode Toei Animation TV anime (1986–1989), the narrative grew into major sagas like The Hades Chapter, Next Dimension, The Lost Canvas, Saintia Shō, and a 3D CG remake series. The franchise began when Masami Kurumada created the manga in late 1985, serializing it in Weekly Shōnen Jump through 1990/1991.
The story revolves around Seiya, an orphan sent to Greece to earn the Pegasus Bronze Cloth so he can participate in the Galaxian Wars tournament and locate his long-lost sister.
Saints channel an internal energy source called Cosmo and wear armor forged under guardian constellations to protect Athena (reincarnated as Saori Kido). Following the manga's immense popularity, Toei Animation adapted the story into a hit television series in 1986, launching theatrical movies and universe-building lore publications such as the 1988 Cosmo Special Hypermyth.
