Cronologia
Panoramica
Kingdom Hearts is a blockbuster multimedia franchise created by Tetsuya Nomura and developed by Square Enix in partnership with Disney.
Since its debut in 2002 on the PlayStation 2, the series has grown into a massive intellectual property consisting of over 13 primary games, multiple remastered collections, manga adaptations, and light novels.
The narrative was initially defined by the 'Dark Seeker Saga,' which concluded in 2019, and has recently transitioned into the 'Lost Master Arc.' The franchise is celebrated for its intricate lore, blending the charm of classic Disney characters like Donald Duck and Goofy with a dark, philosophical story about the nature of hearts, light, and darkness. As of June 2026, the series continues to expand with its first mainline entry in the current arc, Kingdom Hearts IV, while maintaining a strong presence across consoles, PC, and mobile platforms.
Origini
The franchise began with the story of three friends—Sora, Riku, and Kairi—living on the peaceful Destiny Islands. Their lives are upended when their home is consumed by darkness and shadow creatures known as Heartless.
Sora is chosen by a mysterious weapon called the Keyblade and is thrust into a multiverse-spanning quest to find his friends.
Meanwhile, King Mickey Mouse leaves his castle to investigate the rising darkness, tasking his court mage Donald and knight Goofy to find 'the key.' The trio meets in Traverse Town, forming an alliance that serves as the foundation for the entire series. The development was a landmark collaboration, merging Square Enix’s expertise in RPG mechanics with Disney’s vast library of cinematic worlds, such as those from 'The Little Mermaid,' 'The Nightmare Before Christmas,' and 'Hercules.'

Collezionismo
For collectors, Kingdom Hearts represents a high-tier market driven by Square Enix's internal merchandise divisions, specifically the 'Play Arts Kai' and 'Bring Arts' action figure lines.
These figures are prized for their articulation and faithfulness to Tetsuya Nomura’s distinct character designs. The most sought-after items include the 'Final Mix' Japanese limited editions and high-end statues of iconic Keyblades.
'Grail' items often include the limited-run PlayStation console bundles and the original Japanese GBA 'Chain of Memories' box sets. With the 2024 Steam release of the Integrum Masterpiece and the hype surrounding the Unreal Engine 5 development of Kingdom Hearts IV, the secondary market for older physical releases and rare character figures remains extremely competitive, with values consistently rising for mint-condition early titles.

Square Enix officially cancelled the GPS-based mobile game Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link in May 2025.
