Cronologia
Panoramica
Created by screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen with the release of The Karate Kid in 1984, the franchise—widely known as the Miyagi-Verse—has evolved into a multi-generational martial arts saga.
The broader IP encompasses six feature films, two television series, a 13-episode animated series, multiple video games, novelizations, and comic book adaptations.
The franchise experienced a massive global resurgence with the debut of Cobra Kai in 2018, developed by creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg. Originally launching on YouTube Red before transitioning to Netflix, Cobra Kai ran for 65 episodes across six seasons, concluding its main television arc in 2025. The overall cinematic universe continues through 2025's crossover feature film Karate Kid: Legends, uniting legacy characters across generations.
Origini
The franchise began with director John G. Avildsen's 1984 film The Karate Kid, written by Robert Mark Kamen. The story followed Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), a bullied teenager who learns karate and life balance from Okinawan handyman Mr.
Miyagi (Pat Morita) to face his bully Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and the aggressive Cobra Kai dojo led by John Kreese (Martin Kove). The original movie spawned three cinematic sequels through 1994 and a 1989 Saturday morning animated series.
Decades later, creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg revisited the story with a unique twist: flipping the perspective to an adult, down-and-out Johnny Lawrence. Reopening the Cobra Kai dojo to teach bullied teenagers self-defense, Johnny reignites his rivalry with Daniel LaRusso, creating the groundwork for the critically acclaimed modern series.
