ASSASSIN'S CREED
Created by Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed is a global transmedia action-adventure and role-playing franchise centered on the secret, millennia-long war between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order. The narrative hinges on the Animus, a device that allows individuals to explore genetic memories of historical ancestors alongside a modern-day struggle over ancient precursor artifacts known as Pieces of Eden.

Panoramica
Created by Ubisoft and debuting in 2007, Assassin's Creed has grown into one of the most prolific transmedia properties in video game history.
Conceived under creative director Patrice Désilets, the IP follows a conflict between two secretive factions: the Assassin Brotherhood, who champion free will, and the Templar Order, who seek control.
The franchise encompasses 14 mainline video games—spanning from the 2007 original through 2025's Assassin's Creed Shadows—as well as numerous spin-offs, mobile titles, and VR experiences. Beyond gaming, the universe extends into a 2016 theatrical feature film, live-action and animated short films, a Netflix TV series in development, and dozens of tie-in novels, graphic novels, and manga series.
Origini
The franchise originated in 2003 following the release of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Creative director Patrice Désilets initially conceptualized a spin-off titled Prince of Persia: Assassin, focusing on a bodyguard assassin protecting a magical prince in Jerusalem.
The development team repurposed freerunning mechanics from Prince of Persia to build dynamic urban movement. First revealed as 'Project Assassins' at the Tokyo Game Show in September 2005, the title was officially renamed Assassin's Creed at E3 2006. Guided by producer Jade Raymond and art director Raphael Lacoste—who drew inspiration from 19th-century Orientalist lithographs by David Roberts—the team constructed a stealth-action game centered on genetic memory and historical exploration.

Collezionismo
For physical media and figure collectors, Assassin's Creed has offered physical releases since its debut in 2007. The initial launch featured regional collector releases, including a North American Limited Edition containing a 3-inch Altaïr figurine, a Penny Arcade comic, and a mini strategy guide, alongside a European release featuring a 12-inch Altaïr figurine and art book.
Collectors also seek out official steelbox editions decorated with Assassin insignia and Animus glyphs, which packaged graphic novels with certificates of authenticity. Over the years, physical collector editions across major game launches have expanded to include detailed display statues of main protagonists—such as Ezio, Connor, Edward, Eivor, Basim, Naoe, and Yasuke—as well as high-end replicas of Isu artifacts and hidden blades.

Producer Jade Raymond clarified prior to the initial launch that lead character Altaïr was a medieval hitman and not a time traveler.
