Cronologia
Biografia
Yennefer of Vengerberg is a central figure in The Witcher saga, renowned as one of the most formidable sorceresses on the Continent. Born in Vengerberg on the holiday of Belleteyn in 1173, she possesses quarter-elven lineage. Originally suffering from severe physical deformities and abuse, her latent chaotic magic led her to the Aretuza Academy under Rectoress Tissaia de Vries.
Through magical transformation, her deformities were altered to exquisite beauty, though the enchantment left her permanently sterile—a loss that drove her lifelong search for a cure.
Throughout her long life, Yennefer served as a royal advisor in Aedirn for thirty years, fought in historic conflicts like the Battle of Sodden Hill (where she was temporarily blinded), and joined both the Brotherhood of Sorcerers and the clandestine Lodge of Sorceresses. Her life is deeply bound to the witcher Geralt of Rivia through a djinn's wish, and to Princess Ciri, whom she adopts as a surrogate daughter and trains in magic. Whether navigating political debacles, using forbidden necromancy, or battling continental threats, Yennefer remains an extraordinarily powerful and fiercely independent mage.
Storia
Yennefer's early life was marked by extreme trauma and cruelty. Born with a curved spine and partial facial paralysis, she endured constant abuse from her family and hometown. Her father despised her for her deformities, and her mother was unable to protect her. Her life changed when she instinctively portalled to Aretuza after being attacked outside a barn.
Although sent back home by the sorcerer Istredd, her magical trace led Tissaia de Vries to purchase her from her spiteful stepfather for just four marks—less than half the price of a pig. Locked away at Aretuza, a distraught Yennefer attempted suicide by slitting her wrists with a broken mirror shard, but Tissaia saved her life.
Under Tissaia's strict instruction, Yennefer learned to control chaos alongside initiates like Sabrina Glevissig and Fringilla Vigo. During her studies, she shared an intimate romance with Istredd. Upon her graduation, an enchanter remade her physical body into stunning perfection, removing her deformities at the cost of her fertility, transforming her into one of Aretuza's most ambitious graduates.

Evoluzione
Yennefer's evolution across The Witcher franchise marks a transformation from an abused child seeking personal power into a selfless, fiercely protective mother. Initially driven by trauma and a desire never to be victimized again, she sacrificed her fertility for physical beauty and high status as Aedirn's court mage. However, decades of political service left her cynical and longing for the choice of motherhood she had lost, fueling desperate quests to cure her sterility.
Her core dynamic shifted completely when she met Geralt of Rivia and took charge of training Princess Ciri at the Temple of Melitele. Teaching Ciri awakened a deep maternal instinct, transforming Yennefer's self-interested ambition into an unwavering commitment to her found family. Across novels, games, and television adaptations, Yennefer transitions from a pragmatic operative of sorcerous brotherhoods into an independent leader willing to defy kings, lodges, and deadly magic to protect those she loves.

At the Battle of Sodden Hill, Yennefer was temporarily blinded by the Nilfgaardian sorceress Fringilla Vigo.
