X-WING FIGHTER

The X-wing Starfighter is the iconic star superiority craft manufactured by Incom and Incom-FreiTek, serving as the backbone of the Rebel Alliance, New Republic, and Resistance fleets. Characterized by its distinctive strike foils that split into an 'X' configuration during combat, the ship combines heavy laser firepower, proton torpedoes, deflector shielding, and astromech co-pilot integration. Guided by legendary pilots such as Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antilles, and Poe Dameron, the X-wing remains one of the most celebrated starfighters in galactic history.

Biografia

The X-wing Starfighter is the definitive space superiority fighter of galactic rebellion and galactic defense, famed for its pivotal role in destroying both Imperial Death Stars and Starkiller Base.

Engineered to balance speed, maneuverability, and heavy tactical firepower, the vessel allows a single pilot working alongside an astromech droid to engage enemy starfighters or strike heavy capital targets.

Its recognizable silhouette and high battle resilience made it the primary symbol of starfighter heroism throughout the Galactic Civil War and the Resistance's conflict against the First Order. Throughout galactic history, elite military units such as Red Squadron, Rogue Squadron, and Black Squadron relied on the starfighter in critical fleet actions. Legendary aces, including Luke Skywalker (Red Five), Wedge Antilles (Red Two), and Poe Dameron (Black Leader), piloted X-wings during major historical turning points such as the Battles of Yavin, Endor, Takodana, and Exegol. Outer Rim defense units, led by pilots like New Republic Captain Carson Teva, also operated X-wings to patrol trade routes and enforce galactic law.

Storia

The X-wing line originated with Incom Corporation's T-65B model, designed as a multi-role space superiority fighter for combat against Imperial forces. Early variants like the T-65C-A2 saw adoption by Saw Gerrera's Partisans and early insurgent cells. Following the victory at Endor, Incom-FreiTek developed the upgraded T-70 model for the New Republic Defense Fleet.

Prior to the Battle of Jakku in 5 ABY, early T-70 prototypes were already undergoing field operations, including one piloted by Yrica Quell on a mission to Coruscant. Due to the Military Disarmament Act and political corruption within the New Republic, mass production of the T-70 was limited to planetary defense forces.

However, sympathetic senators donated craft to General Leia Organa's Resistance movement, where the T-70 became the primary fighter against the First Order. While the New Republic military eventually transitioned to the advanced T-85 X-wing prior to the destruction of the Hosnian system, older T-65s and T-70s remained active across the galaxy, culminating in their unified deployment during the Battle of Exegol.

LO SAPEVI?Concept artist 'Visualists' during early development of Episode VII considered making the T-70 X-wing a two-person craft.

Evoluzione

The X-wing starfighter design underwent significant technological evolution over several decades to adapt to changing galactic warfare. The original flagship model, the T-65B produced by Incom Corporation, featured four Taim & Bak KX9 laser cannons, Krupx MG7 proton torpedo launchers, and heavy deflector shields. Early variants like the T-65C-A2 provided early resistance groups with durable firepower during the rise of the Galactic Empire. Following the Galactic Civil War, Incom-FreiTek developed the T-70 X-wing starfighter for the New Republic. Benefiting from advances in component miniaturization, the T-70 was smaller, faster, and more maneuverable than the T-65B.

It featured a modified split-wing profile, four Incom-FreiTek 5L5 fusial thrust engines with retro thrusters, upgraded sensors, an underslung automated blaster, and adaptable astromech sockets suitable for various droid models including BB-units. Poe Dameron's customized T-70, Black One, even featured an experimental thruster booster pod for high-speed evasive maneuvers. Eventually, Incom-FreiTek produced the T-85 X-wing as the premier, state-of-the-art fighter for the New Republic Defense Fleet. Technologically superior and heavily armed, the T-85 represented the apex of X-wing engineering before most of the fleet was destroyed during the Hosnian Cataclysm, forcing the Resistance to continue relying on upgraded T-70 and restored T-65 platforms.

LO SAPEVI?The volunteer-led X-Wing Alliance (XWA) community took over official tournament rules and global play after Atomic Mass Games ended development for the X-Wing Miniatures Game in 2024.

Da Collezione

For collectibles enthusiasts, the X-wing Starfighter is one of the most widely produced and highly sought-after vehicles in Star Wars merchandise history. LEGO has released numerous high-profile building sets across multiple generations, ranging from Poe's X-Wing Fighter (#75102) and Resistance X-Wing Fighter (#75149) to the New Republic X-Wing Starfighter (#75460) tied to recent live-action series. Hasbro has continuously featured the craft and its pilots in their action figure lines, including 3.75-inch and 6-inch scale figures of Poe Dameron, Luke Skywalker, and Wedge Antilles within The Black Series line.

In tactical tabletop gaming, the ship served as the foundational focal point for the Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game (originally published by Fantasy Flight Games and later Atomic Mass Games), featuring expansive core sets, T-70 expansion packs, and specialized pilot cards like Black One in Star Wars: Destiny. Following official development sunsetting in 2024, the active organized play circuit and rules management transitioned to the community-led X-Wing Alliance (XWA). High-end physical models and display books, such as the Star Wars: X-Wing Deluxe Book and Model Set, also remain popular display grails for collectors.
