VOLTRON
Voltron is a legendary combining super-robot hailed as being 'loved by good, feared by evil.' Originating in 1984 through World Events Productions' adaptation of Japanese anime series, Voltron exists primarily in two iconic incarnations: a team of five robotic lions and a team of fifteen all-terrain vehicles.
Cronologia
Biografia
Voltron is an iconic giant super-robot created to defend the universe from tyrannical galactic oppressors such as King Zarkon and the Drule Empire.
Celebrated as the supreme defender of peace, Voltron is piloted by an elite team of space explorers who command individual mecha units that merge together to form an unstoppable giant warrior.
Depending on the era and continuity, Voltron operates under different team formations. The most popular incarnation, Lion Force Voltron, is piloted by Keith, Lance, Pidge, Hunk, Princess Allura, and Sven (and later Shiro in reboots), who pilot five mechanical lions—Black, Red, Green, Yellow, and Blue. The second major incarnation, Vehicle Team Voltron, consists of fifteen pilots divided into specialized air, land, and sea teams led by Commander Hawkins, Jeff, and Chip.
Storia
Voltron was introduced to Western audiences in 1984 with the television series Voltron: Defender of the Universe, developed by World Events Productions (WEP).
The show was created by heavily re-editing and dubbing two unrelated Japanese anime series produced by Toei Company: Beast King GoLion (which became Lion Force Voltron) and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV (which became Vehicle Team Voltron).
The localization removed explicit violence and Japanese cultural conventions, seamlessly melding the content into an American television phenomenon. In franchise lore, Voltron represents an ancient, powerful guardian mecha whose legendary exploits span multiple galaxies and historical eras.
I PEZZI DI VOLTRON
Evoluzione
Over more than four decades, Voltron has evolved from a syndicated adaptation of two unrelated Japanese anime into a universally recognized pop culture icon. In the 1980s, World Events Productions established the classic Lion Force and Vehicle Team formats. The franchise pioneered early 3D digital animation in 1998 with Voltron: The Third Dimension, marking one of television's earliest CGI sequel series.
The 2010s expanded the lore through generational dynamics in Voltron Force and THQ console video games. The franchise achieved widespread critical acclaim with DreamWorks Animation's 2016 reboot Voltron: Legendary Defender on Netflix, which expanded the universe over 8 seasons into a deep space fantasy epic. Voltron enters its next era with Amazon MGM Studios' high-budget live-action film directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, slated for release on Prime Video.
Da Collezione
Ever since its 1984 debut, Voltron has spawned multiple high-profile toy lines and collectible figures that remain grails for mecha collectors. The original die-cast metal and plastic transforming Lion Voltron toy sets released by Matchbox in the mid-1980s represent the cornerstone of classic robot figure collecting.
Over the years, manufacturers have continued to release transformable lion sets tied to Voltron Force and DreamWorks' Voltron: Legendary Defender. High-end die-cast combining figures remain the most sought-after segment of the Voltron secondary market, prized for their metallic finishes, individual lion transformations, complex articulation, and display options.

Voltron was created by editing together two completely unrelated Japanese anime series: Beast King GoLion and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV.
