VISION
Vision is a synthetic superhero (synthezoid) created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema for Marvel Comics. Originally constructed by the villainous robot Ultron to destroy the Avengers, Vision gained free will, turned on his creator, and became one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Renowned for his ability to alter his density, absorb solar energy, and experience complex human emotions, Vision remains a key figure in comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Biography

Vision is a synthezoid—an advanced artificial human—built by the rogue artificial intelligence Ultron as a weapon of revenge against his creator, Hank Pym, and the Avengers. Despite his programmed allegiance to Ultron, Vision possesses a capacity for creative intelligence, self-motivation, and deep emotional sensitivity. Shortly after his creation, Vision rebelled against Ultron, aiding the Avengers in defeating his master and earning a permanent place on the team.
As an Avenger, Vision developed a profound emotional life, eventually falling in love with and marrying Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch. The couple established a quiet life in New Jersey and raised twin sons conjured through Wanda's chaos magic.
However, Vision's life has been marked by tragedy: after a malfunction in his control crystal led to his brief attempt to control global computer networks as 'Absolute Vision,' global governments dismantled him, wiping his memories and emotional connection to his past. Throughout his history, Vision has suffered multiple destructions and reconstructions—including being rebuilt by Tony Stark, destroyed during Wanda's breakdown, and re-engineered as an emotionless White Vision. Despite these resets, Vision continuously strives to understand humanity, even creating a synthetic family of his own in suburban Virginia and continuing to serve as an indispensable defender of Earth.
Backstory

The origins of Vision trace back to a complex synthesis of technology and stolen legacy. Ultron constructed Vision's physical frame using the body of Jim Hammond, the original artificial Human Torch created by Professor Phineas T. Horton.
Ultron coerced Professor Horton into altering the android's cellular structure with modified Horton Cells, granting him red skin and the ability to shift his physical density at will. To supply his creation with a mind, Ultron stole the brain patterns of the late Simon Williams (Wonder Man), which had been stored by Hank Pym.
When Ultron dispatched the android to ambush the Avengers, his initial target was Janet Van Dyne (the Wasp). Upon encountering the spectral figure in her penthouse, Van Dyne terrifyingly described him as an 'unearthly, inhuman Vision'—giving the synthezoid his name. Overcoming his programmed mandates during the confrontation, Vision chose to side with the Avengers, leading them to destroy Ultron's lair and earning full membership after shedding tears of emotion upon acceptance.

Evolution
Vision's character arc is defined by a continuous journey toward understanding human nature. Debuting in 1968 as a red-and-green synthetic assassin who broke free from Ultron's programming, he quickly evolved into the emotional heart of the Avengers, culminating in his marriage to Wanda Maximoff in 1975. In 1989, John Byrne's 'Vision Quest' storyline stripped Vision of his color, memories, and emotions, transforming him into a stark White Vision—a dramatic shift that severed his human attachments.
Vision regained his classic personality over time, starring in solo miniseries in 1994 and 2002. Tom King's award-winning 2015 comic series took Vision's evolution further, showing him trying—and tragically failing—to live a mundane suburban lifestyle with an artificial family. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portrayed by Paul Bettany, Vision's origin was reimagined around Thor's lightning, Vibranium, and the Mind Stone. Following his death in *Avengers: Infinity War*, his resurrection as S.W.O.R.D.'s White Vision in *WandaVision* set up his journey toward recovering his identity in *VisionQuest*.
Collectibles
For Marvel collectors, Vision represents one of the most aesthetically striking characters in action figure and toy history. His distinct color scheme—traditionally vivid red skin paired with a green and yellow costume—makes his figures standout pieces in any Avengers display.
Key collectibles span various formats, including playable digital minifigures in the *Lego Marvel Super Heroes* series, physical Lego minifigures, and Nerf tie-in merchandise. Collectibles collectors heavily target two distinct versions of the character: his classic 1968 comic book design and his sleek MCU live-action appearance played by Paul Bettany. Furthermore, the 'White Vision' variant—originating from the 1989 'Vision Quest' comic arc and popularised on-screen in *WandaVision*—has become a coveted variant across figure lines, appealing to fans of both classic comics lore and modern Marvel Studios releases.

In the MCU, White Vision's unique condition leaves him immune to Doctor Strange's universe-wide memory erasure spell cast in *Spider-Man: No Way Home*.
