Cronologia
Biografia
The Doctor is the central protagonist of the British science-fiction franchise Doctor Who, created in 1963 by Sydney Newman, C. E. Webber, and Donald Wilson for the BBC. Hailing from the planet Gallifrey, the Doctor belongs to an advanced alien species known as the Time Lords.
Equipped with a TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space)—a time machine and spacecraft whose chameleon circuit is permanently stuck in the shape of a 1960s blue British police box—the Doctor journeys throughout time and space to explore, right wrongs, and protect innocent lives from galactic threats. Central to the character's biology is the process of regeneration.
When facing mortal injury or old age, a Time Lord's body undergoes complete cellular transformation, yielding a brand-new physical appearance and personality while preserving all previous memories. This unique attribute has allowed multiple actors—from William Hartnell's First Doctor in 1963 to Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor in the modern era—to portray the character continuously across generations. Throughout these adventures, the Doctor typically travels alongside companions—human and alien allies who provide companionship and aid. Operating as an eccentric traveler, scientific advisor to Earth organizations like UNIT, or tactical defender of reality itself, the Doctor remains one of television's most enduring figures.
Storia
The Doctor's history begins on the Time Lord homeworld of Gallifrey. Seeking escape from Time Lord society, the First Doctor stole a faulty Type 40 TARDIS from a Capitol repair workshop and fled Gallifrey alongside his granddaughter, Susan Foreman.
During their early travels, the TARDIS landed in 1960s London, where its chameleon circuit broke, permanently fixing its exterior appearance as a police box. Subsequent revelations expanded the Doctor's ancient origins.
Events surrounding the 'Timeless Child' revealed secret forgotten incarnations—such as the Fugitive Doctor—hidden prior to the First Doctor. Furthermore, during the cataclysmic Last Great Time War between the Time Lords and the Daleks, a secret warrior incarnation known as the War Doctor emerged to fight in the conflict, a dark chapter the Doctor long suppressed until facing his final tomb at Trenzalore.
I PEZZI DI THE DOCTOR
Evoluzione
The Doctor's persona has shifted significantly across eras. In the Classic Era (1963–1989), the character transformed from a stern grandfatherly figure (First Doctor) to a cosmic hobo (Second Doctor), a dapper martial artist bound to Earth (Third Doctor), a bohemian free spirit (Fourth Doctor), a vulnerable gentleman in cricket gear (Fifth Doctor), a loud and bombastic persona (Sixth Doctor), and a dark, tactical chess-master (Seventh Doctor).
Following the 1989 hiatus and the 1996 TV Movie featuring the romantic Eighth Doctor, the 2005 revival introduced trauma-burdened incarnations recovering from the Time War. The Ninth Doctor wore leather jackets and carried deep sorrow, while the Tenth Doctor presented charismatic energy masking emotional complexity. The Eleventh Doctor balanced youthful enthusiasm with ancient age, while the secret War Doctor embodied the compromised warrior persona. Subsequent incarnations continued this evolution: the cerebral Twelfth Doctor, the optimistic Thirteenth Doctor (the first female incarnation on screen), the returning Fourteenth Doctor, and the joyful, emotionally open Fifteenth Doctor.
