SPAWN
Spawn is the legendary anti-hero Al Simmons, a betrayed CIA assassin who returns from Hell as a symbiotic warrior bound to the demon Malebolgia. Created by Todd McFarlane, the character redefined the 1990s comic book industry and holds the world record for the longest-running creator-owned superhero series.
Cronologia
Biografia
Al Simmons was a highly decorated Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps who later transitioned into the CIA’s most elite covert operations unit, the U.S. Security Group.
Known for his lethal efficiency, Simmons' career was cut short when he was betrayed and murdered in Botswana by his own teammate, Bruce Stinson (later revealed to be Jessica Priest), under the orders of Director Jason Wynn. Condemned to Hell for his life as an assassin, Al struck a desperate deal with the demon lord Malebolgia to see his wife, Wanda, one last time.
Simmons was returned to Earth as a Hellspawn—a disfigured, undead creature fueled by necroplasm and bound to a living symbiotic suit. He discovered that five years had passed in his absence; his wife had remarried his best friend, Terry Fitzgerald, and they had a daughter named Cyan. Now an outcast inhabiting the alleys of New York’s 'Rat City,' Al protects the homeless while battling the forces of both Heaven and Hell. As of the recent 2026 timeline shift, Spawn has vanished from the public eye, with Al Simmons living anonymously in a fractured Manhattan.
Storia
Born in Detroit as one of three brothers, Al Simmons was groomed for violence from a young age by the manipulative entity Mammon, who posed as a family acquaintance named Mr. Malefick.
Despite his military success and service in the Secret Service, Al began to grow a conscience, which led to a rift with CIA Director Jason Wynn.
This friction culminated in 'Operation Knightstrike,' the mission where Simmons was executed. His resurrection as Spawn was not a gift but a trap; Malebolgia intended for Al to lead Hell's armies, but Spawn’s lingering humanity and the guidance of the mysterious Cogliostro led him to rebel against his infernal masters.

Evoluzione
Spawn has undergone several radical transformations, both physical and ideological. Originally a street-level protector of Rat City's homeless, he eventually evolved into a cosmic entity.
During the 'Armageddon' arc, he was granted the powers of the Mother, growing white wings and becoming a god-tier being capable of recreating the Earth and sealing the gates of both Heaven and Hell.
Following the 'Spawn's Universe' expansion in 2021, the character transitioned from a lone warrior to the leader of a global network of Hellspawns. By June 2026, under writer Matthew Rosenberg, the character has entered a grounded, mysterious phase where Al Simmons lives in the shadows of a restructured Manhattan after a year-long disappearance.
Da Collezione
Spawn's impact on the collectibles market is unrivaled, as Todd McFarlane founded McFarlane Toys specifically to produce higher-quality figures of the character.
The original 1994 Series 1 figures are considered industry landmarks.
Among the most sought-after 'grails' is the 'Shoelace Face' variant, which depicts Spawn with his face stitched together with a bootlace—a reference to his 1994 crossover with Batman. Other high-value items include the 2020 Kickstarter Remastered Spawn and the recent 'The Scorched' line. Collectors highly prize the 'Artist Proof' unpainted variants and the massive 'King Spawn' statues that showcase the character's hyper-detailed, gothic aesthetic.
Director Todd McFarlane confirmed that a script for the new 'King Spawn' film was completed in 2026 by Scott Silver.
