SORCERESS (TEELA)
Sorceress Teela is one of the central figures in the Masters of the Universe mythology, evolving from Captain of the Royal Guard to the ultimate mystical guardian of Castle Grayskull. Originally conceived as a clone or biological daughter of the original Sorceress Teela-Na and raised by Man-At-Arms, she eventually embraces her bloodline to command Eternia's ancient magic. Across comics, animated series, and live-action adaptations, her journey culminates in her ascension as the powerful Sorceress and Snake Sorceress.
Cronologia
Biografia
Teela begins her journey as the courageous Captain of the Royal Guard of Eternos and adoptive daughter of Duncan (Man-At-Arms). Unaware for much of her early life of her true mystical origins, she is the biological daughter of Teela-Na, the original Sorceress of Castle Grayskull, who gave her to Duncan as an infant to protect her from the perils of Castle Grayskull.
Fierce in battle and deeply loyal to Prince Adam and the Masters of the Universe, Teela serves as Eternia's chief defender against Skeletor and evil forces. As events unfold across different continuities, Teela fulfills her true destiny by succeeding her mother as the guardian of Castle Grayskull.
Taking up the mantle of the Sorceress, she commands vast magical powers while breaking ancient traditions by maintaining her active bonds with her fellow heroes rather than remaining isolated within the castle walls. In modern storylines like Masters of the Universe: Revolution, she undergoes an even greater transformation, wielding all three ancient magic realms of Eternia—Grayskull, Ka, and Havok—to become the formidable Snake Sorceress.
Storia
The origins of Teela and the Sorceress date back to early Eternian lore. In the initial 1981 Mattel minicomics, 'The Goddess' protected Castle Grayskull in green cobra armor. In 1982's The Tale of Teela, Skeletor created a magical clone of the Goddess, whom Duncan rescued and raised as Teela.
Filmation later refined this backstory into a distinct mother-daughter lineage: Teela-Na, a young woman from the attacked village of Nowella, bathed in the Pool of Power inside Castle Grayskull under her predecessor Kuduk Ungol to become the falcon-feathered Sorceress.
Realizing Castle Grayskull was too dangerous for an infant, Teela-Na entrusted baby Teela to Duncan. Throughout various continuities, including the 2002 series and DC Comics narratives, Teela's inherent magical legacy remains latent during her youth as a warrior. In the 2002 series, her lineage connects back through Castle Grayskull's line of guardians to Queen Veena, wife of King Grayskull. Teela eventually claims her full heritage in modern canon, stepping directly into the Sorceress mantle following her mother's passing.

Evoluzione
The visual and narrative concept of Teela and the Sorceress has undergone one of the most significant transformations in Masters of the Universe history. Beginning in 1981, 'The Goddess' wore green cobra armor, a design that was split in 1983 into warrior Captain Teela and bird-feathered Sorceress Teela-Na.
In the 1987 film, the Sorceress's design shifted from falcon feathers to white robes with a crystal headpiece, while the 2002 animated reboot reimagined her attire to evoke an Egyptian deity and depicted her as an active combatant. In 2010s DC Comics and the 2021 Netflix series Masters of the Universe: Revelation, the separate paths of warrior and guardian officially merged. Teela embraced her bloodline to succeed Teela-Na as the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull, choosing to remain connected with her friends rather than isolated inside the castle. This evolution culminated in 2024's Masters of the Universe: Revolution, where Teela combined the magics of Grayskull, Ka, and Havok to become the Snake Sorceress.
Da Collezione
For action figure collectors, Teela and the Sorceress represent cornerstone figures in every Masters of the Universe line produced since the early 1980s. Starting with Mattel's vintage toyline, figures depicting Teela in her classic warrior gear and the Sorceress in her falcon attire remain foundational classics.
Modern lines, such as Masters of the Universe Classics and the Masterverse series, have provided highly articulated, updated sculpts of both forms. Among the most sought-after recent releases is the 2024 Mattel Masterverse: Snake Sorceress Teela 7-inch deluxe action figure, which faithfully recreates her green-skinned design from Netflix's Masters of the Universe: Revolution. Collectors actively pursue variant iterations across her history—from vintage Filmation bird robes to futuristic New Adventures chrome armor and modern Snake Goddess figures.
In the 1987 live-action movie, Christina Pickles played the Sorceress wearing crystals throughout her silver hair as a crown rather than a falcon headpiece.
