Cronologia
Biografia
The Sorceress of Castle Grayskull, originally a mortal woman named Teela Na, is the divine mistress and guardian of Castle Grayskull on Eternia. She guards the mystical fortress that serves as the source of He-Man's great power.
Living alone inside Grayskull, she selflessly devotes her life to watching over Eternia, acting as a wise guide and mentor to Prince Adam while exemplifying deep humility. While inside Castle Grayskull, the Sorceress is one of the three most powerful beings on the planet, possessing unmatched spellcasting and telepathic abilities.
However, her magic in human form is drastically reduced beyond the fortress walls. To travel across Eternia, she transforms into Zoar, a powerful falcon, allowing her to observe distant events and assist defenders from afar. She is also the biological mother of Teela, Captain of the Royal Guard. Knowing Castle Grayskull was too dangerous an environment for an infant, the Sorceress placed Teela in the care of Duncan (Man-At-Arms) to raise as his daughter. Teela's true parentage remains hidden from her until she is ready to inherit her mother's sacred mantle as guardian.
Storia
Before taking up the mantle of guardian, the Sorceress lived as a mortal woman named Teela Na in the village of Nowella. Her home was conquered and devastated by Morgoth and his allies Ferros, Repta, and Rachney, who served the Evil Horde.
Seeking a way to save her people, Teela Na recalled an old storyteller's rhyme advising hope in barren places and set off into the Eternian wastelands to find Castle Grayskull.
On the edge of collapse, Teela Na witnessed the mystical fortress appear before her and was called inside by a mysterious voice. Inside, she met Kuduk Ungol, the reigning Sorceress, who invited her to take over the protection of Grayskull. Teela Na accepted and immersed herself in the Pool of Power, absorbing the mystical energy of Castle Grayskull. Newly empowered, she returned to Nowella, overthrew Morgoth's invaders, and returned to Castle Grayskull to begin her eternal guardianship.
I PEZZI DI SORCERESS
Evoluzione
The Sorceress has experienced notable visual and structural evolutions across the Masters of the Universe franchise. In her initial 1981 mini-comic debut (*He-Man and the Power Sword*), designer Mark Taylor created her as "The Goddess", a green-skinned mystic wearing cobra armor. By 1982, DC Comics and writer Michael Halperin transformed her into an avian sentinel, creating the falcon-feathered Sorceress design that Filmation popularized in 1983. Voiced by Linda Gary, Filmation firmly established her origin as Teela Na, her maternal bond with Teela, and her transformation into the falcon Zoar.
In the 1987 live-action film, designers William Stout and Julie Weiss reimagined her in a flowing white gown with a crown of crystals embedded in long silver hair, played by Christina Pickles. *The New Adventures of He-Man* (1990) gave her futuristic chrome armor in mini-comics and a cosmic star-patterned gown in animation. The 2002 MYP reboot redesigned her with Egyptian goddess aesthetics while highlighting her direct combat skills in battles against King Hssss and Evil-Lyn. In recent years, Netflix's *Revelation* (2021) depicted her fatal battle with Skeletor, leading to Teela inheriting her role, with Hollywood actress Meg Ryan voicing Teela Na's spirit in 2024's *Revolution*. Simultaneously, the 2021 3D CG series introduced her as "Eldress", and Morena Baccarin was cast to portray her in the 2026 live-action feature film.
Da Collezione
For Masters of the Universe toy collectors, the Sorceress is a key figure. Her original vintage action figure was released relatively late in Mattel's vintage run during Wave 6 (1987). It featured a back-lever mechanism that spread her opening feather wings.
Because of its late release in the line, loose vintage figures in pristine condition with working wing mechanisms remain sought-after items on the collector market. Over the years, Mattel and licensed partners have produced multiple iterations across collector-focused lines such as MOTU Classics, Club Grayskull, Origins, and Masterverse. Notable collector targets include the green-skinned 1981 "Goddess" variant, her futuristic *New Adventures* look, and the Egyptian-inspired 2002 version.

For the 1987 live-action movie, her bird headpiece was replaced with crystals placed throughout long silver hair like a crown.
