Cronologia
Biografia
Snake Eyes is a highly skilled covert operations specialist and ninja-commando who serves as one of the primary members of the G.I. Joe counter-terrorist team.
His true identity, real name, and military rank remain strictly "Classified." Unable to speak and wearing a full black face mask and visor to conceal severe facial disfigurement, Snake Eyes is widely regarded as one of the team's most lethal and dependable soldiers, using non-verbal communication, hand gestures, and sign language to interact with his teammates.
Before joining G.I. Joe, Snake Eyes served in a Long-Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) during the Vietnam War, forging deep bonds with fellow soldiers Stalker and Tommy Arashikage (later known as Storm Shadow). Following a catastrophic helicopter explosion during a hostage rescue mission that severely burned his face and permanently destroyed his vocal cords, Snake Eyes dedicated his life entirely to his service with G.I. Joe and his close romantic connection with fellow team member Scarlett.
Storia
Snake Eyes grew up in a close-knit family with his parents and twin sister. During his tour of duty in the Vietnam War, he carried a photo of his twin sister as a good luck charm. While on a patrol mission, his unit was ambushed; after being shot, Snake Eyes was saved from behind enemy lines by Tommy Arashikage.
Upon returning to the United States, Snake Eyes received devastating news from young lieutenant Hawk: his entire family had been killed in an automobile accident caused by a driver who was the brother of the future Cobra Commander. Struggling with anti-war hostility at home, Snake Eyes accepted Tommy's invitation to travel to Japan and train with the ancient Arashikage ninja clan.
Under the mentorship of the Hard Master and Soft Master, Snake Eyes mastered martial arts and "Darkened Room" blind sword techniques, eventually surpassing Tommy in several skills. However, after the Hard Master was assassinated by an intruder using Tommy's bow, the Arashikage clan disbanded under suspicion. Snake Eyes retreated to a remote cabin in the High Sierras with his gray wolf, Timber, living in isolation until Stalker and Hawk recruited him as an original member of the G.I. Joe team.

Evoluzione
Over the decades, Snake Eyes has evolved from a silent 3.75-inch action figure backstory concept into one of pop culture's premier martial arts icons. First introduced in 1982 by writer Larry Hama and toy designer Ron Rudat, Snake Eyes was initially depicted in comic continuity as a traumatized Vietnam veteran living in self-imposed isolation before being drawn into the covert military world of G.I. Joe. His lore expanded significantly through landmark releases like 1984's G.I. Joe #21 ('Silent Interlude'), which solidified his rivalry with Storm Shadow and his mastery of ninja arts.
Across various media adaptations, the character's depiction has adapted to modern storytelling styles. While early Sunbow and DiC cartoons leaned into his stealth commando roots with lighthearted non-verbal moments, later iterations like G.I. Joe: Resolute and G.I. Joe: Renegades explored darker, more serious takes on his vow of silence and Arashikage training. In live-action media, he transitioned from the faithful martial-arts portrayal by Ray Park in the early 2000s films to a reimagined speaking origins story starring Henry Golding in 2021. Most recently, Skybound Entertainment integrated Snake Eyes into the new Energon Universe alongside the Transformers franchise.
Da Collezione
For action figure and toy collectors, Snake Eyes is one of the ultimate holy grails in action figure history. Originally created in 1982 by designer Ron Rudat and writer Larry Hama as part of Hasbro's G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero 3.75-inch line, the character's iconic all-black look was famously a cost-saving measure that accidentally created an instantly recognizable aesthetic.
Over the decades, Hasbro has produced dozens of figure variations reflecting his evolving uniforms across Sunbow, DiC, and G.I. Joe: Sigma 6 toy lines. In recent years, Snake Eyes has remained a centerpiece in modern collectible lines, such as Hasbro's highly detailed 6-inch G.I. Joe Classified Series, as well as high-end statues and retro re-releases. His foundational role in the franchise—from classic 1980s vintage carded figures to contemporary crossover merchandise—makes Snake Eyes figures among the most sought-after items for toy enthusiasts and G.I. Joe completionists worldwide.

Snake Eyes' classic all-black appearance was originally designed as a cost-saving measure by Hasbro to eliminate paint operations on his initial 1982 figure.
