SLYTHERIN HOUSE
Slytherin House is one of the four academic houses at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, founded in the 10th century by Salazar Slytherin. While historically linked with blood purity and dark wizards, Slytherin has produced complex heroes, legendary sorcerers, and key figures throughout wizarding history.
Cronologia
Biografia
Slytherin House is an integral division of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, accepting students who display strong leadership skills, ambition, resourcefulness, and cleverness. Located in the Hogwarts dungeons beneath the Black Lake, its common room is bathed in a distinct green light.
Represented by the serpent and associated with the element of water, the house maintains a fierce, long-standing rivalry with Gryffindor House for the House Cup and Quidditch glory. Throughout wizarding history, Slytherin has held a central position in major magical conflicts.
During the First and Second Wizarding Wars, many Death Eaters—including Lord Voldemort, Lucius Malfoy, and Bellatrix Lestrange—emerged from its ranks. However, the house also produced complex heroes and loyal defenders such as Severus Snape, Regulus Black, and Horace Slughorn, who actively resisted Voldemort's reign. In the post-war and next-generation eras, Slytherin's public image has evolved beyond its dark history. With the sorting of students like Albus Severus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy, the house demonstrates that its core traits of cunning, determination, and ambition can foster profound friendship and heroic wizarding achievements.
Storia
The origins of Slytherin House date back to approximately 990 AD when Salazar Slytherin co-founded Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry alongside Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, and Rowena Ravenclaw.
Slytherin strongly believed that magical education should be restricted strictly to pure-blood wizards, suspecting Muggle-borns of being untrustworthy. His discriminatory views sparked intense controversy among the founders, creating a deep rift between Slytherin and Gryffindor that led to a duel or student civil war according to the Sorting Hat.
Unable to convince the other founders to adopt his admission policy, Salazar Slytherin left Hogwarts. Before his departure, he constructed the secret Chamber of Secrets beneath the castle dungeons, housing a Basilisk inside. He intended for a future heir to open the chamber and purge the school of Muggle-born students. His legacy endured through pure-blood families like the Gaunts, culminating in Tom Riddle opening the Chamber in 1943 and 1992 before Harry Potter destroyed the serpent in 1993.

Evoluzione
Slytherin House's trajectory across Hogwarts history is marked by a transition from pure-blood supremacy toward complex redemption and inclusivity. Founded in the 10th century under Salazar Slytherin's belief in wizarding exclusivity, the house gained a lingering reputation for producing Dark wizards. This association peaked during the mid-to-late 20th century, when Tom Riddle recruited heavily from Slytherin pure-blood families to form his Death Eater army during the Wizarding Wars.
Despite this dark reputation, pivotal moments initiated the house's evolution. Figures such as Severus Snape, Regulus Black, and Horace Slughorn demonstrated extraordinary courage, with Slughorn leading adult Slytherin alumni back to Hogwarts to defend the castle against Voldemort in 1998. By 2017, J.K. Rowling noted that Slytherin was no longer the pure-blood bastion it once was. The sorting of Albus Severus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy in the Next Generation era shattered long-held house prejudices, proving that ambition, cleverness, and self-preservation could align with deep friendship and heroic virtue.
