Cronologia
Biografia
Dragon Shiryu is one of the primary Bronze Saints serving the goddess Athena (Saori Kido) in Masami Kurumada's Saint Seiya universe. Trained for six years at the Five Ancient Peaks of Lushan in China by the ancient Gold Saint Libra Dohko (the Old Master), Shiryu earned the Dragon Bronze Cloth by reversing the flow of Lushan's waterfall.
Calm, composed, and intellectually grounded, he serves as a vital strategic pillar and moral anchor among his fellow Bronze Saints—Pegasus Seiya, Cygnus Hyoga, Andromeda Shun, and Phoenix Ikki. Shiryu is renowned for his extreme selflessness and willingness to sacrifice his physical well-being for his comrades and Athena. Throughout the battles against the Sanctuary, Poseidon, and Hades, Shiryu consistently places his life on the line.
Most famously, he gouges out his own eyes during his duel against Perseus Algol to bypass the lethal Medusa Shield and rescue his petrified friends. His unwavering devotion leads him to offer his blood to revive damaged Cloths and burn his Cosmo to its absolute apex in every battle. Across the progression of the saga, Shiryu's heroic destiny expands beyond the Dragon Cloth. He inherits the divine slashing technique Excalibur from Capricorn Shura and masters his mentor's ultimate technique, Rozan Hyaku Ryū Ha. Officially acknowledged as the successor to the Libra Gold Cloth, Shiryu eventually becomes the Libra Gold Saint, joining his allies across space and time to defend humanity against divine threats in Next Dimension and the Tenkai-hen Olympus saga.
Storia
Shiryu was born as one of one hundred orphans adopted by Mitsumasa Kido and brought under the care of the Graad Foundation in Japan.
During his early childhood, a raffle was organized among the children to determine where each orphan would be sent around the world to undergo grueling training and attempt to earn a sacred Cloth as a Saint of Athena.
In the drawing, Shiryu was assigned to train at the Five Ancient Peaks of Lushan in China under the tutelage of the Gold Saint Libra Dohko, known as the Old Master. Over six intense years, Shiryu endured rigorous physical and spiritual training under Dohko while forming a close bond with Shunrei. He eventually passed his final test by burning his Cosmo to reverse the natural flow of the Lushan waterfall, claiming the Dragon Bronze Cloth before returning to Japan to enter the Galaxian Wars.

Evoluzione
Shiryu's character arc demonstrates a profound evolution from a disciplined yet rigid trainee into a wise master warrior, husband, and father. Initially entering the Galaxian Wars motivated largely by news of his dying master in China, his near-fatal duel against Pegasus Seiya transformed his outlook, establishing an unbreakable bond of brotherhood among Athena's Bronze Saints. Shiryu's willingness to sacrifice half his blood at Jamir to repair his and Seiya's Cloths established his role as the team's self-sacrificing core. Physical loss and spiritual awakening continuously reshaped Shiryu's mastery over Cosmo.
Blinding himself to defeat Perseus Algol forced him to look beyond visual reliance, awakening his inner senses to overcome Gold Saints such as Cancer Deathmask and Capricorn Shura. Receiving Excalibur from Shura marked his rise to wielding Gold Saint-level martial power, which he later complemented by mastering Dohko's ultimate attack, Rozan Hyaku Ryū Ha. In canonical continuations and alternate futures, Shiryu seamlessly steps into leadership and mentorship roles. In Next Dimension, he builds a quiet domestic life with Shunrei and their adopted baby Shoryu before taking up his mentor's walking stick to fight in the 18th-century Holy War. In Saint Seiya Omega, he passes the Dragon Cloth to his biological son Ryuho while formally assuming his rightful legacy as the Gold Saint of Libra.

Capricorn Shura passed the holy sword Excalibur directly into Shiryu's right arm during their sanctuary duel.
