Seto Kaiba is a central anti-hero and primary rival in Kazuki Takahashi's Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, debuting in chapter 9 of the original manga in 1996.

Storia
Orphaned alongside his younger brother Mokuba, Seto spent his early childhood in an orphanage until wealthy industrialist Gozaburo Kaiba visited the institution. Spotting an opportunity, Seto challenged Gozaburo to a game of chess with the condition that Gozaburo adopt both brothers if Seto won.
Seto emerged victorious, but Gozaburo subjected him to a grueling academic and corporate regimen designed to mold him into a cold corporate heir.
Seto eventually turned Gozaburo's cruelty against him by acquiring 51% of KaibaCorp's stock through a hostile takeover, ousting his adoptive father and taking control of the conglomerate. In ancient Egyptian history, Kaiba's past life was Priest Seto, High Priest and cousin to Pharaoh Atem. Priest Seto formed a deep spiritual bond with Kisara, a woman whose inner spirit manifested as the legendary Blue-Eyes White Dragon, forging a cosmic connection that transcends millennia.

Seto Kaiba begins his story as an arrogant, ruthless prodigy consumed by control, willing to tear up the fourth Blue-Eyes White Dragon card and build lethal death traps like Death-T just to exact revenge. His outlook undergoes a fundamental shift after Atem defeats him using Exodia and inflicts a 'Mind Crush,' shattering Kaiba's corrupted heart so he could rebuild his soul from scratch.
As he rebuilds, Kaiba channels his obsession away from malice and toward technological innovation and grand competition, establishing the Battle City Tournament and rejecting ancient mysticism in favor of human willpower. In TRANSCEND GAME and The Dark Side of Dimensions, his evolution culminates in a willingness to challenge reality itself, developing spatial-dimensional VR to traverse death and meet Atem for one final duel.
