Cronologia
Biografia
Saru is a male Kelpien born on the planet Kaminar who made history by becoming the first of his species to voluntarily depart his homeworld and join Starfleet. Portrayed by Doug Jones, Saru initially served as a Lieutenant and Chief Science Officer aboard the USS Shenzhou under Captain Philippa Georgiou.
Following the Battle of the Binary Stars in 2256, he transferred to the USS Discovery, serving as First Officer under Captain Gabriel Lorca. During the Federation-Klingon War, Saru repeatedly stepped into command roles, eventually becoming acting captain of the Discovery after Lorca was revealed to be a Mirror Universe impostor.
He successfully led Discovery's crew through the Mirror Universe crisis and the pivotal mission to Qo'noS, securing a truce that ended the war. For his extraordinary leadership, Saru became the first Kelpien to receive the Starfleet Medal of Honor. After Discovery jumped 930 years into the 32nd century, Saru was officially named Captain of the vessel, guiding the crew to solve the mystery of 'The Burn'. He later stepped down from starship command to focus on diplomatic efforts, serving as a Federation Ambassador and legal guardian to Su'Kal before marrying President T'Rina of Ni'Var and attaining the rank of Admiral.
Storia
Saru spent his early life in an agrarian village on Kaminar living alongside his father Aradar and sister Siranna. The Kelpiens lived as a prey species under the constant monitoring of the predatory Ba'ul, who harvested Kelpiens when they underwent a biological maturation known as vahar'ai.
While his community accepted this fate, Saru questioned the ritual sacrifices and harbored a strong desire to explore the stars. When instructed by his father to dispose of fallen Ba'ul technological debris, Saru instead salvaged the components to secretly build a functional interstellar communications device.
His signal was detected by Lieutenant Philippa Georgiou of Starfleet. Recognizing his extraordinary ingenuity, Starfleet granted special permission to extract Saru. Because Kaminar was a pre-warp civilization, Saru accepted that he could never return to his family to preserve the Prime Directive. Leaving with only a handful of seeds and his sister's knife, Saru was processed as a refugee at Starbase 7 and committed himself to joining Starfleet.
I PEZZI DI SARU
Evoluzione
Saru's personal arc is defined by a total biological and psychological transformation from fear to fearlessness. As a pre-vahar'ai Kelpien, Saru was driven by biological threat ganglia that kept him in a state of constant anxiety and caution, a trait that initially limited his confidence in high-stakes command situations.
His evolution reached a breakthrough when he underwent vahar'ai, a process long believed by Kelpiens to be a fatal life stage. Instead of dying, Saru shed his threat ganglia. This physiological change eliminated his constant fear, bestowing him with newfound physical vigor, assertiveness, and tactical boldness. Freed from biological fear, Saru transitioned from an anxious science officer into a formidable starship Captain and eventually a key Federation Ambassador.
