Biografia

Rhaegal is a green and bronze dragon brought into the world by Daenerys Targaryen alongside his sibling dragons, Drogon and Viserion. Named in memory of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, Rhaegal is distinguished by emerald green scales, bronze underside highlights, yellow-orange wing membranes, and orange eyes.

Though calmer than his brother Drogon, he possesses immense physical strength and responds directly to vocal commands in High Valyrian, most notably 'Dracarys'. Throughout Daenerys's rise to power, Rhaegal serves as both a powerful deterrent and a force of destruction.

He participates in freeing Slaver's Bay, defeating the warlock Pyat Pree in Qarth, and destroying the slavers' fleet at Meereen. Following a period of captivity in the catacombs beneath Meereen after civilian deaths caused by Drogon, Rhaegal is liberated by Tyrion Lannister. Upon arriving in Westeros, he forms a unique bond with Jon Snow (Aegon Targaryen), who mounts and rides him during the Great War against the Army of the Dead.

LO SAPEVI?Rhaegal's name was first stated on-screen in Season 5 Episode 1, having previously only been confirmed in HBO's Season 4 Viewer's Guide.

Storia

More than a century before his birth, Rhaegal's arrival was foreseen in a weirwood-tree vision by Daemon Targaryen at the godswood of Harrenhal, where he witnessed Daenerys Targaryen bringing her dragons into the world.

In history, Rhaegal's egg—emerald green with bronze flecks—was presented to Daenerys as a wedding gift by Magister Illyrio Mopatis in Pentos upon her marriage to Khal Drogo. Daenerys kept the egg in a chest, protecting it even when her brother Viserys attempted to steal it.

Following the death of Khal Drogo, Daenerys placed Rhaegal's egg onto Drogo's funeral pyre. The next morning, Daenerys emerged unharmed from the ashes holding the newly hatched Rhaegal. From that moment onward, Rhaegal journeyed with his mother across the Red Waste, growing from a small hatchling into a mighty dragon capable of altering the political landscape of the known world.

Evoluzione

Rhaegal's lifecycle is marked by profound physical growth and psychological changes. Originating as a small green dragon no larger than a small dog, Rhaegal initially exhibited a relatively calm disposition compared to Drogon, though he remained competitive for food and quick to defend his mother.

As he grew in Meereen, his lack of freedom and prolonged imprisonment within the dark catacombs beneath the Great Pyramid caused him to become feral, aggressive, and unpredictable. After Tyrion Lannister released him from his chains, Rhaegal mature into a colossal combatant. His scales deepened in color, turning near-black along his dorsal ridge while maintaining vibrant green stripes across his neck. In Westeros, his evolution culminated in accepting Jon Snow as his rider, demonstrating a capacity to form a dragonbond and fight cooperatively in aerial warfare before his sudden death at Dragonstone.

LO SAPEVI?In book canon, Prince Quentyn Martell of Dorne was fatally burned by dragonfire when he attempted to tame Rhaegal beneath Meereen.
