Biografia

Alexei Shostakov was one of the Soviet Union's most acclaimed test pilots before being secretly recruited by the KGB and transformed into the second Red Guardian. Celebrated publicly as a Hero of the Soviet Union, his identity and past were erased by the state to turn him into a ruthless super-soldier designed as the USSR's answer to Captain America.
Armed with custom weaponry and elite physical conditioning, he served Soviet interests globally while his wife, Natasha Romanoff, was misled into believing he had perishingly died in a rocket test. Throughout his operative history, Alexei clashed directly with Captain America and the Avengers during a joint covert mission in China involving mass-hallucination technology.
Though positioned as a fierce adversary, Alexei demonstrated an enduring sense of honor by sacrificing himself to protect Natasha and preventing an unfair strike against an unconscious Captain America. Beyond his initial presumed death, Alexei survived to adopt the deadly alias Ronin, led the Dark Ocean Society, and eventually joined Bucky Barnes's Thunderbolts to actively combat fascist remnants across the world.
Storia

Born in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, Alexei Shostakov achieved national acclaim through his extraordinary piloting skills, undertaking the Soviet Union's most dangerous secret flight tests. He enjoyed a high-profile life and married the famous ballerina Natalia Romanova.
However, their prominence caught the attention of the KGB, which selected both for secret intelligence work. While Alexei was away on a secret assignment, the KGB informed him that he was forbidden from contacting his friends, family, or wife ever again.
Concurrently, Soviet officials lied to Natalia, informing her that Alexei had died in an experimental rocket explosion. Traumatized by the loss, Natalia entered KGB training to honor her husband's memory, eventually becoming the Black Widow. Meanwhile, Alexei underwent intense state conditioning and training to emerge as the second Red Guardian.
I PEZZI DI RED GUARDIAN
Evoluzione
Red Guardian was originally created in 1967 as a tragic Soviet antagonist designed as a state-conditioned counterpart to Captain America. In his earliest appearances, Alexei Shostakov was defined by his total devotion to state duty, which was broken only by his lingering love for his former wife, Natasha Romanoff. Over the decades, the Red Guardian moniker evolved into a legacy mantle held by numerous individuals—including Dr. Tania Belinsky, Josef Petkus, Aleksey Lebedev, and Nikolai Krylenko—reflecting shifting political landscapes across World War II, the Cold War, and post-Soviet eras.
Upon Alexei Shostakov's return to Marvel continuity, his character underwent significant development. Transitioning away from a simple patriotic adversary, he adopted the lethal vigilante alias Ronin, led the Dark Ocean Society, and navigated morally complex anti-heroic operations alongside Yelena Belova. In modern storylines, Shostakov fully redefined himself by joining Bucky Barnes's Thunderbolts to dismantle fascist organizations worldwide. This journey from state pawn to ruthless assassin and ultimately anti-fascist warrior was expanded in live-action MCU adaptations, which introduced a protective father-figure dynamic to his core character.

Alexei resurfaced years after his presumed death in China under the villainous ninja alias Ronin.
