Biografia

The Red Death is an alternate, corrupted version of Batman hailing from Earth -52 in the Dark Multiverse. Operating as Gotham City's dark vigilante, Bruce Wayne suffered a catastrophic breakdown after losing all of his Robins to crime. Driven by overwhelming grief, paranoia, and a fear that human limitations made him too slow to prevent tragedy, Bruce turned his sights on his world's Flash.

Believing he could utilize the Speed Force far better than Barry Allen, Batman defeated the Flash's Rogues, stole their weaponry, overpowered Barry, and forcibly fused their bodies together inside the Speed Force using a Cosmic Treadmill-rigged Batmobile.

Emerging as a dark speedster named Batman: The Red Death, Bruce maintained dominant control over their shared body while Barry's consciousness remained trapped inside, constantly pleading for him to stop. After murdering his own world's villains, Bruce discovered Earth -52 was inherently unstable and collapsing. He was recruited by The Batman Who Laughs to join Barbatos' Dark Knights, agreeing to invade Earth-0 in exchange for saving his home. On Earth-0, he conquered Central City, used corrupted Speed Force bat constructs to rapidly age its population, and fought the Justice League until his ultimate demise during the Dark Multiverse crisis.

Storia

The origins of the Red Death lie in the dark history of Earth -52. On this world, Bruce Wayne fought crime alongside his Batman Family sidekicks, but Gotham City eventually took its toll, claiming the lives of all his Robins.

Gripped by severe trauma and a desperate need to ensure no one else would die on his watch, Bruce concluded that his lack of speed was his ultimate failure. He determined that taking The Flash's connection to the Speed Force was the only way to protect Gotham.

To prepare for his assault on the Flash, Batman systematically ambushed and defeated Barry Allen's Rogues Gallery, confiscating Captain Cold's Freeze Gun, Heat Wave's Heat Gun, Weather Wizard's Wand, and Mirror Master's Mirror Gun. Using these weapons, Bruce overpowered Barry Allen, chained him to the hood of his Batmobile—which had been merged with the schematics of the Cosmic Treadmill—and drove them directly into the Speed Force. The resulting catastrophic energy forced the two into a single body. Bruce gained superhuman speed, but the trip permanently scarred his face underneath his mask and trapped Barry's protesting mind within him.

Evoluzione

Introduced in 2017 by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, Batman: The Red Death was created to embody Batman's deep-seated fear of aging, losing his family, and failing to be fast enough to stop tragedy. In the comics, his physical form was unstable—momentarily disintegrating into swarms of black bat silhouettes with red overlays whenever he stopped moving.

His comic arc reached its climax in Dark Nights: Metal #6 (2018), where exposure to positive energy from the Forge of Worlds purged the dark corruption, allowing Barry Allen's persona to briefly regain control before the character disintegrated completely as his home universe ceased to exist. Beyond print, Red Death underwent significant adaptation across media. In video games, DC Universe Online (2019) and DC: Dark Legion (2025–2026) expanded his role into a recurring raid boss specializing in time-rift and speed-aging mechanics. For live-action television, because Bruce Wayne could not be used in the Arrowverse, the producers reinterpreted Red Death in Season 9 of The Flash (2023) as an alternate dark multiverse variant of Ryan Wilder (Batwoman), portrayed by Javicia Leslie.

LO SAPEVI?His negative Speed Force bat constructs age anyone who touches them, causing victims to wither away in seconds.

Da Collezione

For action figure collectors and statue enthusiasts, Batman: The Red Death stands out as one of the most visually distinctive concepts born from DC's Dark Nights: Metal line. Combining Batman's iconic bat aesthetic with a sleek, crimson speedster armor adorned with finned accents, the character translates exceptionally well into physical collectibles.

In the action figure realm, high-end 1/12 scale articulated figures have been produced by manufacturers such as Bandai and LPZZ as part of their Dark Nights Metal series (2024–2026). Collectors heavily prioritize figures that come packaged with translucent red Speed Force lightning effect pieces and interchangeable speed-bat constructs. Due to his popular status among Dark Multiverse variants, Red Death figures remain key centerpiece items for speedster and Batman collectors alike.

LO SAPEVI?In the live-action CW series The Flash, Red Death was adapted as a dark alternate version of Ryan Wilder (Batwoman) played by Javicia Leslie.
