Cronologia
Biografia
Pumpkin Rapper is an iconic monster from the Power Rangers franchise, distinguished by his upside-down pumpkin head, large gaping mouth, and distinct hip-hop persona. True to his name, he speaks and sings almost exclusively in rhyming rap verses, exhibiting the upbeat energy of a DJ who is always ready for battle.
Created by Rita Repulsa's minions, Baboo and Squatt, he was planted in a pumpkin patch in Angel Grove Park to ambush the Power Rangers during Halloween. Throughout his appearances, Pumpkin Rapper serves as both a comedic foe and a formidable physical threat.
He commands armies of Putty Patrollers wearing pumpkins on their heads, attacks with dark green vine whips, and hurls explosive pumpkin projectiles capable of damaging giant Megazords. Although repeatedly destroyed by the Power Rangers' combined Power Blaster or Megazords, he is frequently resurrected or recreated by villains such as Lord Zedd, Finster, and Doomstone. Across television series, comic books, tabletop board games, and mobile titles, Pumpkin Rapper remains one of the franchise's most recognizable and enduring Halloween-themed antagonists.
Storia
The character design originates from Japan's 1992 Super Sentai series Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, where he appeared in episode 34 as the monster Pumpkin Priest (Kabocha no Shinkan). For Western audiences, his footage was adapted into Mighty Morphin Power Rangers season 1.
In Power Rangers lore, Pumpkin Rapper was created after Goldar anticipated the arrival of Halloween. Approved by Rita Repulsa while Kimberly was away on a television game show, Squatt and Baboo planted rotten pumpkin seeds off-screen in an Angel Grove Park pumpkin patch.
It took a full week for the seeds to grow into a giant hidden pumpkin. When the other pumpkins in the patch began floating and trapping the Rangers' heads in airtight pumpkin helmets, Kimberly destroyed them with her Blade Blaster. The Rangers eventually discovered the main giant pumpkin and woke him up with their own rap attempt, prompting Pumpkin Rapper to emerge and fight.

Evoluzione
Originally debuting in the 1992 Japanese Super Sentai series Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger as Pumpkin Priest, the character was transformed during his American localization for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in 1994. Reimagined as Pumpkin Rapper, he was given a rhyming dialogue pattern and DJ-inspired persona that set him apart from standard monsters-of-the-week. Over time, Pumpkin Rapper grew from a seasonal episodic villain into a fan-favorite franchise recurring character.
He made Power Rangers lore history by becoming the first monster in the franchise to reappear in a subsequent series during Power Rangers in Space. Modern media expanded his character further: in the web series Power Rangers HyperForce, he took on an undercover role as Corporal Michael Hicks before performing a suicide bombing against Lord Drakkon's prison complex, while comic publisher Boom! Studios elevated him to a headlining antagonist in their 2025 Halloween Special.
Da Collezione
For Power Rangers action figure collectors, Pumpkin Rapper represents one of the most sought-after niche monster releases from the Mighty Morphin era. Although he did not receive a mass-market toy during Bandai's original 1990s product line, Hasbro fulfilled fan demands in early 2021 by releasing him in the premium 6-inch/8-inch scale Hasbro Power Rangers Lightning Collection 'Monsters' sub-line.
This Lightning Collection release features extensive articulation, an accurate upside-down jack-o'-lantern head sculpt, and detailed vine body texturing. The figure package comes filled with character accessories, including interchangeable hands, dark green vine tentacles, blue/yellow energy shock effect pieces, and miniature pumpkin accessories. Beyond action figures, tabletop gamers and card collectors can find physical representations of Pumpkin Rapper in the Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid Deluxe Box expansion miniature, as well as villain cards in the Power Rangers Deck-Building Game and Action Card Game.
He is the first monster in Power Rangers history to reappear in a subsequent series (Power Rangers in Space).
