Cronologia
Biografia
Christopher Smith, operating under the mantle of Peacemaker, is an elite marksman and military operative whose extreme commitment to achieving peace leads him to kill anyone standing in his way. He functions with a distorted moral compass, believing that any violent action is justified if it serves the ultimate cause of global peace.
Armed with specialized weaponry and signature chrome helmets, Smith is a deadly combatant and covert strategist. Initially introduced as a diplomatic pacifist who used non-lethal tech, Smith was later reimagined into a dark, psychologically troubled vigilante following DC Comics' acquisition of Charlton Comics.
In mainstream continuity, he has served as a primary field leader and operative for Amanda Waller's Task Force X (Suicide Squad), Checkmate, and the Shadow Fighters on high-risk covert operations. In modern adaptations, Peacemaker leads Task Force X strike teams on missions such as Corto Maltese's Project Starfish, joins ARGUS's Project Butterfly, and battles across dimensions in fantasy realms. His narrative centers on his complex psychological trauma, toxic parental relationships, and unique bonds with allies like his pet eagle Eagly.
Storia
Created by writer Joe Gill and artist Pat Boyette, Peacemaker made his debut in Charlton Comics' Fightin' 5 #40 in 1966. He was originally introduced as Christopher Smith, a pacifist diplomat who created non-lethal weapons and military body armor to fight warmongers when traditional diplomacy failed.
After DC Comics acquired Charlton characters in 1983 and integrated them during Crisis on Infinite Earths, Smith's backstory received a major dark reboot in the 1988 Peacemaker miniseries by Paul Kupperberg and Tod Smith. This origin revealed that Smith's father, Wolfgang Schmidt, was a Nazi concentration camp commandant who committed suicide in front of young Christopher.
The severe trauma left Smith suffering from serious mental illness and delusions, convincing him that his father's ghost and the souls of his victims resided inside his helmet, driving his violent crusade. In the live-action DC universe created by James Gunn, his origins revolve around his upbringing under his father, Auggie Smith (the White Dragon), a white-supremacist supervillain who crafted his technical helmets and subjected him to an abusive childhood.

Evoluzione
Peacemaker's character arc has undergone radical shifts across nearly six decades. He debuted in 1966 at Charlton Comics as a peace-loving diplomat who created high-tech non-lethal gear to stop warmongers without taking lives. Following DC Comics' acquisition of Charlton in 1983, the character received a dark Post-Crisis origin reboot in 1988 by writer Paul Kupperberg. He became a violent, mentally unstable vigilante burdened by his father's Nazi legacy, believing the spirits of his father and victims were trapped inside his helmet.
In 2014, Grant Morrison highlighted Peacemaker's historical significance in The Multiversity: Pax Americana #1, detailing how his Charlton iteration served as the direct basis for Alan Moore's character The Comedian in Watchmen. In the 2020s, Peacemaker experienced a massive global resurgence led by filmmaker James Gunn and actor John Cena. First appearing in The Suicide Squad (2021) and leading his own television series in 2022, Peacemaker evolved into a nuanced, tragicomic antihero. This live-action popularity directly reshaped the comic books, resulting in new solo titles like Peacemaker: Disturbing the Peace and Peacemaker Tries Hard!, which officially canonized his pet bald eagle, Eagly.
John Cena provided both the visual face model and voice acting for Peacemaker's guest appearance in Mortal Kombat 1.
