Cronologia
Biografia
Joey Wheeler is one of the primary protagonists and the ultimate underdog duelist of the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise. Created by Kazuki Takahashi, Joey begins his journey as a rough street delinquent and bully at Domino High School.
However, after Yugi Muto selflessly defends him from the corrupt school monitor Ushio, Joey experiences a profound change of heart. He becomes Yugi's most loyal companion, discovering that true strength comes from standing up for the people you love.
Driven by an overwhelming devotion to his younger sister, Serenity Wheeler, Joey enters high-stakes card game tournaments like Duelist Kingdom to win the prize money required for her vital eye surgery. Under the rigorous mentorship of Solomon Muto, Joey transforms from a complete amateur into a fierce competitor, eventually being recognized by Maximillion Pegasus in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX as one of the top three duelists in the world alongside Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba.
Storia
Joey's upbringing was marked by hardship and family separation. When he was ten years old, his parents divorced, resulting in his sister Serenity being raised by their mother while Joey lived with his father, after which Joey never spoke to his mother again.
Growing up tough on the streets, Joey once got into a fight with gang members while standing up for another child, leading Tristan Taylor to jump in and help him.
During his early high school days, Joey bullied Yugi Muto, even throwing a piece of Yugi's prized Millennium Puzzle out of a classroom window into a swimming pool. However, when Ushio brutally beat up Joey and Tristan, Yugi courageously stepped in to defend them, declaring they were his friends. Deeply inspired by Yugi's selflessness, Joey retrieved the missing puzzle piece from the pool and returned it to Yugi, cementing a lifelong bond between them.

Evoluzione
Joey Wheeler undergoes one of the most dramatic character arcs in the Yu-Gi-Oh! series. Starting out as an untrained amateur whose original deck contained strictly Monster Cards with zero Spells or Traps, Joey relies heavily on raw impulse and physical toughness. Through Solomon Muto's grueling instruction and his own unshakeable determination, he learns tactical deck construction and strategy.
During the Duelist Kingdom tournament, his motivation to save his sister Serenity pushes him past his limits, enabling him to defeat seasoned duelists like Rex Raptor, Bonz, and Bandit Keith. Despite being disrespectfully rated as a one-star entry by Seto Kaiba in Battle City, Joey proves his growth by winning key matches against Espa Roba, Weevil Underwood, and Mako Tsunami to reach four-star status and qualify for the finals. His mental resilience reaches its peak when he breaks free from Marik Ishtar's Millennium Rod mind control through pure willpower. By the era of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Joey has evolved from a street delinquent into a legendary global duelist.
