Cronologia
Biografia
Rebecca 'Newt' Jorden is a central character in James Cameron's 1986 sci-fi masterpiece Aliens. Introduced as the sole surviving inhabitant of the Hadley's Hope colony on the moon Acheron (LV-426), Newt managed to evade dozens of ruthless Xenomorphs entirely on her own. Using her intimate knowledge of the colony's air ducts and ventilation systems, she stayed hidden for weeks until a squad of U.S.
Colonial Marines and civilian consultant Ellen Ripley arrived to investigate the lost communications. Upon discovery, Newt initially suffered from severe trauma and mutism, but quickly formed an emotional surrogate mother-daughter bond with Ripley, who was grieving her own lost daughter. Newt's survival instincts and layout knowledge proved invaluable as the Marines were ambushed and decimated.
During the final evacuation from LV-426, Newt was captured and cocooned in the Atmosphere Processing Plant's Xenomorph Hive, prompting Ripley to descend alone into the hive to rescue her from the Queen. Though Newt successfully escaped LV-426 aboard the USS Sulaco, her story met a tragic end at the start of Alien 3 (1992). An electrical fire triggered by acidic Facehugger blood forced the Sulaco's escape pod to crash-land in the ocean of Fiorina 'Fury' 161, causing Newt's cryotube to flood and drowning her in hypersleep.
Storia
Newt was born on March 15, 2173, in the terraforming colony Hadley's Hope on Acheron (LV-426) to parents Russ and Anne Jorden. She was the couple's second child after her older brother Timothy 'Timmy' and held the historic distinction of being the first child ever born at the settlement.
As a young girl, Newt enjoyed playing games in the complex's ventilation shafts alongside her brother and other colony children, despite parental warnings. Her life turned into a nightmare in 2179 when her parents were dispatched by Weyland-Yutani representative Carter Burke to explore specific coordinates on the moon's surface.
Transported in their Daihotai Tractor, the family discovered the same Derelict spacecraft encountered 57 years earlier by the USCSS Nostromo. Russ Jorden was attacked by a Facehugger inside the ship, leading to the first Chestburster birth at Hadley's Hope. As Xenomorphs multiplied and dragged off colonists, Newt witnessed her mother and brother killed when survivors' barricades were breached. Escaping into the ventilation ducts, she built a small hiding den near the operations center, keeping only the head of her favorite doll, Casey, as a companion.

Evoluzione
Newt's character trajectory is one of the most unique and debated in science fiction history. In theatrical film canon, her character arc progresses from a traumatized, mute child survivor in Aliens into an inspiring symbol of resilience and maternal devotion alongside Ripley, only to be abruptly killed off-screen between films in Alien 3 (1992). However, outside the theatrical releases, Newt evolved through an extensive alternate-timeline expansion.
In Dark Horse Comics' landmark 1988 series, writer Mark Verheiden envisioned an adult Newt grappling with severe PTSD in a medical facility before reuniting with Hicks to combat Xenomorph outbreaks across the galaxy. When Alien 3 established her death in 1992, publishers temporarily renamed her 'Billie' to maintain continuity. In later years, public love for the character led to unproduced movie scripts (such as Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 and William Gibson's Alien III), official novels, audio dramas, and Marvel reprints that fully restored Newt's survival in alternate timelines.

Following her film death in Alien 3, Dark Horse Comics retroactively renamed her character to 'Billie' in book reprints to preserve film continuity, before Marvel restored her original name in 2021.
