Biografia

The MSN-04 Sazabi is a high-performance Newtype-use heavy assault mobile suit developed for the anime film Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack (1988). Within the Universal Century timeline during U.C. 0093, the crimson suit serves as the personal flagship machine of Char Aznable (Casval Rem Deikun), Supreme Commander of the second Neo Zeon movement.

Built by lunar contractor Anaheim Electronics at its Granada facility, the Sazabi was custom-tailored to suit Char's extraordinary piloting skills and powerful Newtype psycowaves. Throughout the Second Neo Zeon War, Char personally piloted the Sazabi to lead defensive space operations against the Earth Federation's Londo Bell Task Force.

The suit played a critical role in guarding Neo Zeon's strategic asteroid drops—including the acceleration of Axis toward Earth to induce a nuclear winter. Tactical operations and suit deployment were managed by Nanai Miguel, head of Neo Zeon's Newtype Research Institute. The Sazabi's operational career ended in a dramatic duel over Axis against Char's long-time rival Amuro Ray in the RX-93 ν Gundam. Amuro severely damaged the Sazabi and captured Char's ejected spherical cockpit capsule, leaving the suit's physical frame abandoned on the asteroid surface.

LO SAPEVI?The Sazabi's beam shot rifle features a unique dual-barrel construction allowing it to fire both standard beam shots and shotgun-style scattershot blasts.

Storia

Following Char Aznable's re-emergence in the early U.C. 0090s, he commissioned Anaheim Electronics to design and construct a custom mobile suit engineered specifically around his advanced Newtype capabilities. Standing at an impressive head height of 25.6 meters and carrying a full weight of 71.2 metric tons, the Sazabi was noticeably larger than standard mobile suits of its era.

To compensate for its massive frame, engineers used lightweight armor materials and installed a vast array of high-output thrusters, providing the machine with exceptional maneuverability and speed. The Sazabi's defining technological breakthrough was its Psycho-Frame cockpit.

Designed by Anaheim Electronics, this revolutionary feature embedded microscopic psycommu receiver circuits directly into the metal frame surrounding the spherical head cockpit. This allowed Char's brainwaves to translate directly into machine commands with zero latency. Confident in his piloting superiority, Char secretly leaked this Psycho-Frame technology to Anaheim Electronics so it could be built into Amuro Ray's RX-93 ν Gundam, ensuring their final encounter would be fought on equal technical ground.

LO SAPEVI?Despite standing 25.6 meters tall, lightweight armor alloys and numerous high-output thrusters make the Sazabi faster and more maneuverable than standard mobile suits.

Evoluzione

The technological and design evolution of the MSN-04 Sazabi encompasses early prototypes, alternate timeline variants, and direct technological descendants. Development began with the MSN-04X Sazabi Prototype in the novel High-Streamer. In Yoshiyuki Tomino's alternate novelization Beltorchika's Children, the machine evolved into the MSN-04II Nightingale, a massive heavy mobile armor variant equipped with ten funnels and large propellant tanks. Ground-combat offshoots were also created, including the MSN-04B Sazabi Heavy Equipment Ground Type and the AMS-04L Light Armored Land Type.

In modern media, the suit inspired custom Gunpla variations such as Kenta Sakazaki's white GPB Color model and Aila Jyrkiäinen's AC-01 Miss Sazabi. In 2022, the MSN-04FF Sazabi debuted for the LaLaport Fukuoka attraction, upgrading the suit with two giant Double Horn Funnels capable of combining into massive beam sabers or high-power cannons. Within Universal Century timeline canon, technical data retrieved from both the Sazabi and ν Gundam served as the foundation for Anaheim Electronics to develop the MSN-06S Sinanju Stein, which directly spawned the MSN-06S Sinanju and the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam.

LO SAPEVI?The physical wreckage of Char's Sazabi remained embedded on the outer surface of the asteroid Axis for years after U.C. 0093.
