Midas is one of the most central and iconic original characters in Epic Games' Fortnite universe.
Inspired by the mythological Greek King Midas, he is a calculating criminal mastermind, spy chieftain, and the high-ranking leader who commanded both the GHOST and SHADOW espionage syndicates during Chapter 2.
Defined by his sharp suits, golden eyes, and prominent facial scar, Midas stands out as a driving force behind the island's overarching storyline. At the core of his character is the "Golden Touch"—a supernatural curse that transforms any item, weapon, or vehicle he touches into solid gold. Driven by a desire to break free from "The Loop" (the endless storm-enclosed simulation controlling Reality Zero), Midas orchestrated high-stakes operations that challenged the Imagined Order and reshaped the island's reality forever.
Storia
Long before making his physical debut on the Fortnite island, Midas contracted the Golden Touch curse alongside his close counterpart, Marigold.
Seeking power and control, he founded the undercover organization SHADOW before establishing GHOST, assembling an elite enforcer strike team known as "The First Shadows"—comprising The Burning Wolf, Chaos Origins, and Sierra.
During this time, he also raised his daughter Jules, who grew up to become his brilliant head engineer. Operating from his high-tech headquarters at The Agency during Chapter 2, Season 2, Midas collaborated with Jules to construct "The Device," a massive electromagnetic storm disruptor. In June 2020, Midas activated the machine in a desperate attempt to push back the Storm and shatter the island's simulation, briefly piercing the barrier to Reality Zero before the Storm violently retaliated as a giant Wall of Water.

Midas has undergone one of the most dynamic character arcs in Fortnite history. Introduced as a polished, suit-wearing spy leader controlling The Agency, his initial story focused on high-tech espionage and defying the Loop through engineering. Following the failure of The Device and a shark attack that left him stranded, he transitioned into an undead entity, Shadow Midas, leading ghostly spirits in Fortnitemares.
Over subsequent chapters, Midas was expanded through multiversal snapshots and distinct thematic forms, including high-tech armor (Midas Rex), frozen variants (Icebound Midas), and cel-shaded aesthetics (Golden Gear Midas). His narrative reached a dramatic peak when he broke free from Hades' Underworld as Ascendant Midas, reuniting his original crew. Most recently, he reinvented himself as Outlaw Midas in Chapter 6, stepping into a Wild West antihero role to command the island's underground gold trade.

For Fortnite collectors, Midas represents one of the undisputed "holy grails" of original Battle Pass lore skins. The original Chapter 2, Season 2 Level 100 Battle Pass Outfit—alongside its highly coveted Golden Agent style that required reaching level 100+—can no longer be acquired, making accounts containing it extremely prized in the community.
Epic Games and physical merchandise partners have expanded Midas beyond his initial debut through various high-profile bundles and Item Shop releases. Notable collectible iterations include the DC-partnered "The Last Laugh" Bundle featuring Midas Rex, the "Anime Legends" Pack with Golden Gear Midas, the "Black Ice Legends" Pack featuring Icebound Midas, and standalone Item Shop releases like Shadow Midas, Midsummer Midas, and Ascendant Midas. Additionally, Midas has been officially digitized as a playable LEGO minifigure in LEGO Fortnite and a Fall Guys Bean.
Midas was originally meant to wear glasses, but director Donald Mustard cut them a day before release in favor of his iconic facial scar.
