Cronologia
Biografia
Legolas Greenleaf is an Elven prince who serves as a core representative of the Free Peoples of Middle-earth during the War of the Ring. He first enters the central narrative when traveling to Rivendell as a messenger from his father, King Thranduil, to report the escape of Gollum from Elven custody.
At the Council of Elrond, Legolas volunteers to represent the Elves among the Nine Walkers of the Fellowship, pledging his bow to aid Frodo Baggins in the quest to destroy the One Ring. Throughout their trek, Legolas proves invaluable to the Fellowship with his unmatched perception, light-footed agility over snow and treacherous terrain, and deadly archery skills.
Following the breaking of the Fellowship at Amon Hen, he joins Aragorn and Gimli as one of the Three Hunters, pursuing the Uruk-hai across Rohan. During these exploits, Legolas bridges an ancient historical rift between their races to form a deep, enduring friendship with Gimli the Dwarf. Legolas fights with great distinction across the major engagements of the War of the Ring, including the Battle of the Hornburg at Helm's Deep, the Paths of the Dead, the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, and the Battle of the Morannon. Following Sauron's defeat, he helps restore the war-torn woodlands of Ithilien before eventually building a grey ship and sailing across the Sea to Valinor alongside Gimli.
Storia
Legolas is the son of Thranduil, King of the Northern Mirkwood Elves, and the grandson of Oropher.
Although he ruled over a predominantly Silvan Elven population in the Woodland Realm, Legolas himself is of Sindarin descent, belonging to the noble minority that established leadership in Mirkwood following the First Age.
His exact date of birth and his mother's identity are unrecorded in J.R.R. Tolkien's writings, though he describes having seen woodland trees grow from acorns to ruinous age, placing him at several centuries to thousands of years old by the time of the War of the Ring.
I PEZZI DI LEGOLAS
Evoluzione
Legolas originated in early draft concepts by J.R.R. Tolkien, such as a First Age Elf guiding survivors from Gondolin in *The Book of Lost Tales* (c. 1917). Tolkien later separated this character from the Third Age Elven prince introduced in *The Lord of the Rings* novels (1954–1955). In literary canon, Legolas serves as a noble representative of Elven lore who bridges the ancient hatred between Elves and Dwarves through his bond with Gimli. In media adaptations, Legolas's visual identity underwent significant transformation.
Ralph Bakshi's 1978 animated film featured him voiced by Anthony Daniels and standing in for Glorfindel at the Ford of Bruinen. Peter Jackson's cinematic trilogy (2001–2003) redefined Legolas as an action icon, played by Orlando Bloom with blond hair, dual long knives, and high-mobility athletic combat setpieces such as shield-sliding at Helm's Deep and felling a Mumakil at Pelennor Fields. Jackson later integrated Legolas into *The Hobbit* film trilogy (2013–2014) to explore his relationship with King Thranduil and his dynamic with Tauriel. His evolution continues into modern media, including tabletop card games, figures, and potential cinematic appearances in *The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum*.
