KRO
Warlord Kro is an ancient Deviant general and former monarch from Marvel Comics, created by Jack Kirby and Martin A. Burnstein. Unlike most Deviants whose genetic code causes monstrous physical mutations, Kro possesses a unique evolutionary trait granting him immortality, tissue malleability, and rapid healing similar to the Eternals. Across thousands of years, he has commanded the armies of Lemuria, posed as mythological demons like Pluto and Satan, and maintained a tragic, centuries-spanning romance with the Eternal warrior Thena.
Cronologia
Biografia
Kro is a general, warlord, and former monarch of the Deviants, an evolutionary offshoot of humanity created by the cosmic Celestials to wage war against the Eternals. Operating from undersea Lemuria, Kro stands out among his genetically unstable species due to beneficial mutations that grant him longevity, regenerative healing, and physical malleability.
To protect himself from fellow Deviants who would subject him to vivisection to extract the secret of his long life, Kro has hidden his near-immortality for over 20,000 years by constantly adopting new disguises and altering his facial features. Throughout his vast lifespan, Kro has played a pivotal role in major cosmic and terrestrial conflicts.
Despite leading Deviant armies against humanity and the Eternals, his pragmatic nature and secret love affair with the Eternal warrior Thena have frequently positioned him as a reluctant ally to his species' sworn enemies. Beyond his military duties in Lemuria, Kro established the underground Delta Network (Delta Force), an alliance of heroic Deviants dedicated to aiding allies like the Avengers and protecting vulnerable mutates from fanatical Deviant factions.
Storia
Born in the subterranean kingdom of Deviant Lemuria over 20,000 years ago, Kro inherited a rare genetic code that set him apart from the rest of his race. While other Deviants suffered from grotesque mutations, Kro developed powers remarkably similar to those of the Eternals, including age immunity, near-indestructibility, and the power to reshape his body tissues like putty.
Fearing genetic experimentation from his own kind, Kro spent millennia assuming various aliases, mastering military warfare, and leading Deviant armies under rulers like Emperor Brother Tode. Approximately 2,500 years ago in ancient Babylon, Kro met and fell in love with Thena, daughter of the Prime Eternal Zuras.
Their forbidden romance—the first known liaison between the rival species—ended in separation, though both carried strong feelings for each other across centuries. During the 20th century, Kro operated on Earth under aliases such as Rudolph Hendler, Paul Sayden, and Pluto, sparking conflicts in Europe and America before being repeatedly foiled by the speedster Eternal Makkari. His demonic appearance and longevity led humans across various eras to mistake him for mythological figures like Pluto, Satan, and the Devil.
I PEZZI DI KRO
Evoluzione
Kro's publication history is defined by retroactive continuous lore expansion and shifting narrative roles. Originally retrofitted into 1940s Golden Age titles like Red Raven Comics under human guises like Rudolph Hendler and Pluto, Kro was officially defined by Jack Kirby in 1976 as the quintessential Deviant warlord driving conflict against the Celestials and Eternals. Over the decades, Kro evolved from a standard comic book antagonist into a complex political leader and reluctant anti-hero.
His tragic love affair with Thena humanized his character, eventually revealing him as a protective father to their twin hybrid children, Donald and Deborah. Rather than remaining a purely destructive conqueror, Kro established Delta Force to protect innocent mutates from the religious zealotry of High Priest Ghaur. In the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Eternals, Kro underwent a major conceptual redesign, morphing from a military Lemurian monarch into an evolving apex predator who absorbs cosmic energy and memories directly from fallen Eternals.

For action figure and comic book collectors, Warlord Kro became a prominent figure around the release of Marvel Studios' Eternals in 2021. The flagship figure of the character is Hasbro's standalone deluxe Marvel Legends 8-Inch Action Figure, which accurately recreates his movie appearance with textured alien skin detail and interchangeable tendril hands. In addition to Hasbro's release, vinyl figure collectors can source the Funko Pop! Marvel: Eternals - Kro (#740), capturing his cinematic look in stylized vinyl form. LEGO enthusiasts can acquire Kro as a buildable figure in the LEGO Marvel Eternals 'Rise of the Domo' set (#76156), featuring poseable limbs and tentacle elements. Comic collectors frequently hunt for his key debut issues, including The Eternals #1 (1976) and Eternals: The Herod Factor #1.
